Going on a trip soon
Living as an expat in the UAE for 1 and a half years, I really don’t know what to expect when I am going home for two months since the school is closed for a very long summer holiday.
Raising kids here is a lot easier than back home, for safety and educational reasons. Summer holiday is very long and too hot to go to the desert for some camping, too hot for a day out on the beach and also too hot for fishing. These are the things we love to do as a family.
Since coming here, there were always stories about children being kidnapped, but now is seems like it is a lot more common now so this is a stressful situation for me as my 3 year old likes to chat to anyone she sees and also likes to run around the shopping mall because here it is safe and the people are friendly. But in my country the ball game is a lot different and not something easy to explain to this 3 year old of mine.
I don’t what to be…paranoid, and at the same time I don’t want my children to be scared of all the bad that is going on in this time.
I spoke to my family about all the stuff going on there - no water for the last couple of days, today electricity that was on and off during the whole day, garbage that does not get picked up for weeks, etc.
This is what really scares me as we are not used to this anymore and sometimes I sit and think about all the things here and wonder: Why doesn’t my country do the same there as here? I think it would be a lot easier for everyone!
