Equal pay in all professions/jobs will cause more harm than good
The issue of meager salaries and wages has been a huge problem in my country and this is why most of the citizens want to leave for a greener pasture, they want a country that will pay them well.
It Is better to be a cleaner abroad than a lecturer in your hometown, how weird this will sound to some people until they compare the difference between the salary of a Nigerian lecturer to the income of a Nigerian cleaner based abroad.
Imagine the same cleaning job that people get 15,000 Naira[15 dollars] on a monthly basis could fetch them 400,000 Naira [400 dollars] in another country, why would a Nigerian still want to stay in her country after getting this update.
The cost of feeding in the United States might be high but a responsible Nigerian working there should still be able to save like 100 dollars monthly into his African bank from what he earned over there, and also one doesn't need to do just one work over there, they have what is called shift and one can do multiple jobs to earn.
The hive learners prompt on Equal pay is something I don't think will work fine, it will make things not to be balanced in a way.
There are some professions that require intelligence, some are so dangerous and risky and some require a lot of hard work to be able to understand them and hence why the pay in those professions is higher than some others, meanwhile some work pay their workers handsomely because it is the country source of income too like the oil and gas.
Do not get me wrong here, all work is tedious, there is no easy work anywhere if it is easy it won't be called work because all work requires effort, my point is if every work offers the same salary then everyone can decide to go for the ones that require less effort.
If you ask a student what he would love to become in the future, 95 percent would mention the top professions like doctor, lawyer, engineer, pilot, and others, it is not because of any other thing but the honor and the income of those who practice the profession.
Those in these professions are highly respected in our society and they are also paid well but if things were to change and all professions earn the same amount of money, do you still think we would have many people aspiring to be any of these professions based on what it takes to become one.
Equal pay? I don't want to become a Doctor anymore, I would like to become a massage therapist since we would be getting the same pay! Others would also go for the ones they love and before we know it, some professions will lack workers and that will be the start of a new problem in the country.
Why would I want to become a Soldier and risk my life for a country that failed me If I can earn the same amount being a photographer, just a few clicks and the money is rolling in.
I hope with the few points I listed, I am able to convince and not confuse you that equal pay in all professions and work is not the right measure to take but another thing I would love to add is at least making the other profession salary or wages decent enough to encourage those doing the job too.
