There are different types of people online who do not like to get doxxed. Some people simply want to protect themselves from others and do not want the online world to affect their life offline, while others may have bad motives or agenda, something to hide and do not want their real identity to be discovered cos they fear the consequences that may follow it if they are doxxed...
We have many bad people online, sadists who are looking for every opportunity to cause the downfall of others. They often hide under private accounts or fake names. You can see them all around different social media like Tiktok, X, and others...They never reveal their identity so that they will not be traced or arrested because, of course, they know what they are doing.
One thing that is very common nowadays is online people carrying out justice on their own, especially when it comes to celebrities. You will start to hear things like, "He has been cancelled, and we will no longer allow him to progress again."
Something happened to one of the top three Nigerian artists recently. At a concert where he was performing, there was this person who came there to sleep, and when he sighted the person, he literally told the person to leave his concert. Why bother coming if you are coming there to sleep?
This did not sit well with the online warriors. They said he did not have the right to tell the person to leave, and then the issue started. They said they were going to cancel him. Some of his shows were actually cancelled because of the matter.
There were people who were happy about it, and they all thought it was going to be his end. But then, this celebrity is not someone that can be brought down by some anti-fan. The matter died a good death, and he is still shining.
If they had the power, they could have ruined his career with their actions. I am not justifying what he did, neither am I going to blame him, but people are so eager to cause someone's downfall.
So yes, I think the online culture of cancelling people should be abolished. Online warriors do not have the right to cancel anyone because, in the end, the person they are trying to cancel might not even be in the wrong.
Anyone can easily spread a bad rumour about someone online, and without investigating carefully, an innocent person might be cancelled and suffer the consequences of something they did not do.
So we should let the law take its course because cancelling people online is not that different from jungle justice offline. It is just a different way of doing it.
