Last week I asked the question Is Splinterlands Worth Playing? as I’d decided to give the game another try and see where things were up to. I was fortunate enough to be accepted back into my old Guild the Drop Bears because I figured that if I was playing a couple of seasons in Ranked Play then I may as well jump back into a Brawl or too to see how they are going and maybe I can help out my old team. I have been a little bit surprised to find that the game seems to have shifted focus a bit when it comes to rewards.
The rewards in Ranked Play so far have been pretty….well...ordinary. It's been fun muddling through Silver League and trying to figure out if I should go for rank on the Silver Leaderboard or whether I should power up into Gold League and go for the Season and Focus rewards. The jury is still out on that decision, but the surprise for me was the rewards coming from the Brawl.
Last time I played there were Gladius cards but they were only usable in the Brawls so I kind of mentally discounted them as not being that useful. However, I’ve been coming up against Gladius cards in ranked play so they’re probably a bit more valuable than I realised. Since we came 2nd in the Brawl that I played I earned a bunch of Merits that I can now use to buy Gladius card packs with. Ok, that bit might not be that new but if the Gladius cards are more useful than before then they’re probably worth getting.
The other benefit of the Guilds and Brawls is that they build a bit of camaraderie and teamwork within the player base so I can see why the developers are keen on pushing incentives towards the Brawls. During the Bear Market and the big lull we’ve had in the Splinterlands ecosystem it’s the social aspects of the game which are going to keep players going and give the ecosystem legs while we ride out the rough times. Makes perfect sense to me why they would push rewards towards Brawls.
So if you’re playing Splinterlands but not Brawling then get yourself into a Guild and take it on. It’s pretty fun and you could pick up a few Gladius packs to make it worth your while.
