Money and sex. Sex and money. These are the two things that keep the world spinning. They’re basically two sides of the same coin because they are both important in the grand scheme of things. Regardless of the choices a person makes, at one point or the other they will be confronted by one or the other, whether they’re ready to handle it or not, whether they’re prepared for it or not. It’s gonna happen all the same.
So, when you see how important these two things are, it’s a wonder how little attention we give to them. Children are not taught about these things early enough. Especially when it comes ot sex talks. Many people treat it as a sort of taboo, almost as if having that conversation with them is as bad as watching an intimate scene with them. Some parents would rather prevent their children from mingling with members of the opposite sex than sit them down and have the conversation with them.
These are conversations that should be had early on simply because if you don’t provide the education as the parent, they’ll get it from somewhere else, and I can assure you that you won’t like the education that society would give them. Not at all.
For many of us, we had to navigate sex education on our own. We viewed a lot of things happening in our bodies or things that were done to us through the lens of religion. Sex is held in such high esteem, treated like the holy grail. And many parents treat it as if just the mere mention of it is sacrilegious. Well, things need to change.
As soon as a child can comprehend thoughts, they should be warned about parts that are private and how no one should be allowed to touch them in certain places, regardless of who the person is. And as they grow older, they should also be taught about the changes that their bodies will go through, reminding them that it’s just part of nature.
All in all, I believe the world would be so much better if we stopped treating sex like it’s such a holy grail and something so valuable and forbidden, limited only to the creme de la creme. Because for many, the mere fact that it’s out of bounds would be the very reason they choose to try it out. We should simply see it as just another thing that adults do in the privacy of their homes, like Netflix and chilling under the blue light.
And finally, I believe that every child should be close enough to their children to be able to talk about issues regarding their private parts. It’s just like having a daughter as a man and being uncomfortable with issues like menstruation. How will you have the much-needed conversations with her when you’re that way? Your children need to know that they can count on you, no matter what. Because nobody knows tomorrow. Anything can happen, and they would want to tell you, but because they’re scared of your reaction, they keep it to themselves. The world has lost a lot of souls this way.
There is so much to unpack in this topic, and I don’t think a single post can do justice. Well, all I’m saying is that there is no set time to start sex education; we simply do it as early as possible. Putting it off is not going to work.
The future of our children is counting on us.
