Personally, I don’t really like prank videos, I’m not really a fan of them. This isn’t how it used to be though, I enjoyed it when it was simple pranks and it was done for laughs. The kind of prank where when after you realize everything that has happened, you smile and only feel silly with yourself for having gotten played.
Those days, life was easier. However, when creators realized that there was an audience for prank videos, the hunger for likes and engagements shot their greed to a whole different level, forcing them to do things that they would never have considered. And in the end, who suffered it the most? Their hapless victims.
It can be quite frustrating just to be going about your business, maybe shopping through the mall, or waiting to catch a bus that would take you to work. However, you suddenly fall upon a prank that could affect you in a way that you would never expect. Maybe they could end up ruining your dress, meaning you’d definitely get to work late that day. Or it could even be worse and you’d end up getting hurt.
We’ve heard stories of people getting high blood pressure simply because of a prank that went too far. People have had cardiac arrests, and people have done really dangerous things simply because of panic due to the fact that they believed that they were in danger.
Sadly, when you look at the creators of these pranks, they don’t really care. They enjoy the controversy, they enjoy the attention that it gives them and they don’t care about the effect it has on the strangers that they use in their videos. And funny enough, the strangers don’t get anything from the videos. At least, I don’t think they do.
Pranks work best when your targets have no idea who you are so they don’t expect you, and many times, the responses they give are too genuine to be staged. Unless these guys hire really great actors. So, it’s saddening that these creators make so much money off the strangers and then give them nothing in return. Well, I don’t know what goes on behind the scenes, but if it turns out that they’re really not compensating these guys, then it would be really terrible for the creators.
For harmless pranks where people are not hurt or anything, it can be easy to overlook. Especially when it’s a funny one and it kind of works well in your favor. However, when creators take it to the extreme, a price must be paid. If, by no effort of mine, I end up on a prankster’s videos, maybe they end up performing a prank that ends with me getting hurt in any way at all, I’d make sure they compensate me. The more viral the video goes, the more my money will mount.
You cannot give me high blood pressure and think you’ll simply be making money off the video without me taking something. As long as that video is on your account, I’ll be receiving royalties off it for the rest of my life. This is the idea that people should exude because this pranks of a thing is becoming too much. You can’t be an unwilling actor in a movie you know nothing about, and then have them leave you out when the profits roll around.
Not me. I’m going to fight tooth and nail, the celebrity status that they enjoy might not save them. Anyway, this is all just me. I don’t know what others will think. Hell, I don’t know what you’ll think about it. But it’s all good. Just sharing my thoughts on this annoying trend.
