(Inspired by true events)
I wake up on our living room couch. How she had taken me there, I have no idea. But she's presently treating my wound with the First Aid kit. I can see she is crying profusely as she stiches my wound.
I wipe her tears away, she turns, her sobbing only increases. "I'm so sorry. What if he had killed you?" She weeps.
"He tried." I tell her, "but he didn't succeed. See, thanks you, I'm fine."
She wipes her eyes, "I'm sorry, I didn't..."
"Hey." I sit up, wincing as my wound flares up in pain, "you must not apologise for what that rapist did. I'm your big brother, and I've taken care of him. I've made damn sure he never touches you again. Or any girl for that matter."
At that, she stops what she's doing and turns to look at me. "What do you mean?"
I try to shrug it off, "it doesn't matter, just trust me when I---"
"What happened?" She asks, her eyes fills with fear. A new kind of fear.
"He's dead, okay? It happened so fast, I didn't see it coming. He got the knife and stabbed me, I stabbed him back. And he.. he just died."
She stumbles backward then, another stream of tears flowing from her eyes, "you killed him."
Confused about her actions, I begin to worry. "I know you loved him, but with what he did to you he doesn't deserve to live. It might not be easy to accept now, but that's how it is. Dead is the best place for him to---"
"I didn't send you there to kill him!" She screams, throwing the bottle of menthylated spirit at the wall. The plastic bounces off and lands on the floor.
"Okay, you have to calm down." I mutter, adjusting in my seat, "number one, you didn't send me anywhere. Number two, he's a rapist who---"
"I just wanted you to teach him a lesson!" She cries, "beat him up a little and that is all."
"That was my plan too, but then he went for the knife and..." My voice trails off as I realize something. My sister and I are on completely different planes of thought. She seems to be more worried about Chike being dead than me being almost killed. I ask her, "what are you talking about?"
She looks away, going to pick the bottle she had tossed earlier. She ignores my question. I know then that something is very wrong.
"What the hell were you saying?" I shout, causing another bolt of pain to shoot up my ribs.
"We had a fight! Okay?" She cries out, "he said he was done with the relationship, that I was too clingy and needy. Just because I didn't give him a chance to cheat, he calls me clingy. I didn't want us to break up bro, I really love him. So I had to teach him a lesson. Let him know who was boss in the relationship."
I watch as she slowly turns to face me, her eyes are downcast, staring at her feet. Fear, betrayal and disappointment clogs my throat. I know what is coming next, still I have to ask.
"So..." Is all I can mutter, before words fail me completely.
"So I had you beat him up." She drops then to her knees, clasping her hands as she begins to weep. "I'm so sorry. Chike was innocent, he didn't rape me."
He didn't rape her. That's all I can think of. The words going over and over in my head as I remember Chike's last moment and question.
I am speechless and motionless. My head is blank. I am in a complete state of paralysis.
I can only stare at my younger sister.
And I don't know what to do.
THE END.
