It's indeed a day to celebrate ' World Agric Day' 14th of December.
A day set aside to

->Discuss the way forward in its development
->Create platforms for investors.
University of Port Harcourt, Faculty of Agriculture won't slack in this, we are taking it to the Convocation Arena on the 14th of December to mark this great day.

HOW MY LOVE FOR AGRIC STARTED
Growing up I wanted to become a nurse because I loved the way they dress and how they take care of patient. So I applied for the course in 2015 at the University of Port Harcourt, lo and behold I was given Fisheries in Agriculture.
When I checked the admission list and saw my name there I had mixed feelings... should I laugh, cry or celebrate. I said in my heart NO! I won't study this course.
How will I study Agriculture, worst of all fish! What will I tell my friends when they ask me my department.
I got a call from my uncle , He asked me why I refused studing the course , if it was just the name that sounded funny or something else. I told him the name sounds funny, the course is funny, everything thing about Agriculture is funny and I won't partake in such, I was speaking out of ignorance and frustration.
He told me to go and do a research on the course and see if it was as funny as I thought. I went online and researched on Agriculture, I was marvelled at the gross significance of the sector to the economy, and the economic importance of fishery to the GDP of the nation and the untapped potential in the waters.
Fishery is more than 'catching of fish' as some persons think it is.
It has
°Oceanography
°Aquaculture
°Ornamental Fisheries
° Limnology
°Aqua Biology and Ithiology etc.
So fishery goes beyond 'catching fish' , it's about the aquatic environment and trust me the water is a whole new world on it's own.
I have so much in heart to do with Fisheries
Aristole Onassis said 'the secret to business is to know what someone else doesn't know'.
I totally agree with him, most youth in Nigeria see the sector as 'suffer head' which is not true. It has enough potential to transform a nation but most persons dont know, even the ones that know are reluctant to do something.
So if you are chanced on the 14th of December, come around. Let's interact, and have fun while we learn.
