It's been a bit of a rollercoaster ride this week hasn't it? For me that couldn't be more true. After a treacherous drive through the mountains (which I will post about later), I found myself at a gift shop in the middle of the Rocky Mountains.
As is the case since I started my silver stacking journey, anytime I catch a glimpse of something shiny, it immediately has my attention. I caught sight of these centennial rounds at the gift shop. I quickly picked one up and started turning it over to see if there was any indication of how much silver might be in it.
Turns out it was most likely zero. There wasn't a single indication on either of the silver or gold pieces that made me believe there was any drop of precious metal in them. I might have been wrong, but I decided to skip them and went with a T-Shirt instead. A $45 T-Shirt mind you, which I honestly find pretty ridiculous, but I guess after the hour drive, I had to come back with something!
It is time again for another Finance Friday/Friday Finance. This is a series I started where I talk about random bits of financial stuff that I have seen, gathered, or experienced during the week. I hope as a reader you find it informational, entertaining, or both. I also hope it can generate some good discussion and edify the community.
Bitcoin has been taking a bit of a nose dive over the past couple of days. I was really hoping to see some positive action once July got here, but I guess we still have quite a few days left to go this month. It would be really cool to see a return to the $70K range by the time August rolls around, but even if that doesn't happen, I am not too worried.
I think many of us know that we need to just take a breath here and zoom out. We are still up from where we were and in the grand scheme of things, we still have a lot of room to move up. It will just take a little bit of time.
Coinbase
I saw an article the other day talking about how Coinbase has landed a $32.5 Million US Government contract. Apparently Coinbase Prime is partnering with the US Marshal Service to provide custody and trading of the digital assets it possesses. Interesting given the fact that you have another US agency (I'm looking at you SEC) that seems hell bent on doing everything they can to stop crypto.
Of course the Marshal's might just be looking for a way to offload the assets they seize during whatever operation they are on at the time. It only makes sense that they would want a way to easily move that crypto to fiat. This article states that the US Government owns more than $13.8 Billion in digital assets. I have a feeling the fund managers aren't feeling sad at all about the prospect of some of that crypto entering the market for them to snag up.
BRO
If you aren't familiar with the BRO group on Hive, they have been doing some really great things lately. @raymondspeaks recently got awarded a grant from the DHF to produce some videos on YouTube that will hopefully bring more users to the Hive ecosystem. I think we can all agree that we need more dedicated, invested, and responsible users here.
In addition to that, the BRO collaboration Daily DABS has expanded once more with the introduction of the RUG token. If you haven't checked it out yet, I encourage you to do so. If you are a DBOND or DAB holder, the RUG token creates a nice synergy with those other tokens. There is a lot of upside potential here but of course you should do your own research as this is not financial advice!
Witnesses
As always, if you have a stake on HIVE, you should be actively voting on witnesses. Make sure you are doing your due diligence and updating your votes with witnesses who are actually benefitting the chain. @nuthman has been a little MIA lately but I still think he deserves some support if you aren't voting for him already. I think we can all appreciate how the real world and the challenges it brings us can encroach on our digital time.
Ultimately, those real world things are usually more important, so a little bit of grace and understanding is definitely warranted here. If you have been on the fence about voting for Nuthman, I encourage you to give him your support.
That's all I've got for you this week. I hope you had an awesome 4th of July if you celebrate that holiday and wonderful weekend!
