I was sitting in church yesterday morning when my mind started to wander. It's not the fact that I was in church, my mind just happens to wander no matter what situation I am in. It's a fact of life I have learned to cope with growing up with ADHD. Anyway, I found myself there and I started thinking about HIVE, and the witnesses on HIVE. Then I was trying to think of something cool I could try to use AI coding for like I did with my Historic Hive Value Dashboard.
Maybe because it is the Major League Baseball playoffs, I also started thinking about baseball, so I guess it was just a foregone conclusion that the two topics would collide together in my mind. I started thinking about how cool it might be if instead of being a bit long list of names and stats on a page, if the witness votes could be represented in a different way.
I kind of forgot about it for the rest of the day, but then later yesterday evening, I sat down and started toying around with the Google Coding Studio while I was watching some NFL football.
And thus, the first iteration of the Hive Witness Cards app was born.
I put my prompt in the program with very specific parameters of what I wanted created, and then the fun really started. The AI actually did a pretty good job of giving me exactly what I wanted on the first try, but there were still quite a few things I had to fix. In fact, just looking at it now, I can still see things that I am not entirely happy with, but I ran out of credits or prompts or whatever yesterday, so I will have to wait until later today to try to fix them.
The cool thing is, I am really starting to get familiar with the process and at this point, the only limitation I have is struggling to come up with ideas.
I remember as a young kid I had stacks of baseball cards that I would put in these sleeves and then keep in a binder. Likewise, my nephew had something similar for all of this Pokemon cards. That's kind of the feel I was going for with this app.
After the initial idea was generated by AI, I added the ability to login with the HIVE Keychain app so you can see who you are voting for. As you can see in the photo above, it puts a green highlight around the witnesses that you are voting for. I also added the ability to filter down to just the witnesses you are voting for, so you don't have to scroll through page after page to see some of those lower ranked witnesses you might have on your list.
I also added the ability to see if you are proxying your vote and if you are, you can see who your proxy is voting for. It was via that I discovered that my wife's account was still proxied to the bro-fund account which I need to fix this morning after I make this post.
Like I said, the idea was to make this feel kind of like those old trading cards when you were a kid. For the front of the cards, I had the AI pull the profile photo for each witness, then I had it add their HBD interest rate as well as a few other stats like their vote power, what their price feed states, and how many blocks they have missed.
However, the real magic happens when you click on one of the cards to flip it over. Once you do that, you get a ton more statistics about each of the witnesses like what their KE ratio is, though it appears that isn't showing correctly, so I might need to fix that. It also shows how much HBD they are holding and whether or not they are currently powering down. I was trying to think of interesting additional deeper info that people might want to see on the back of cards. Just like a baseball card has detailed stats about a specific player. Since the blockchain is fully open, that shouldn't be a big deal.
If you look at the bottom of each card, once it is flipped over, you can also remove or place your witness votes. Right now, there seems to be a bug where it initially reflects your vote, however a second or two later it reverts back to the previous status. However, if you refresh your browser, you can see that HIVE Keychain processed the action correctly. That's the point last night where I ran out of prompts to use, so I had to call it a night.
If you have any thought for other pertinent information that I should have added to the backs of the cards, please let me know.
The other thing that is kind of annoying is the fact that you can't just click on the card again to flip it back over. Instead, you have to click the button in the upper right of each card that says "front". Despite that, I am still pretty impressed with the functionality of this site after just about an hour working with AI to have it code it. As part of the process I did have a few errors, but after asking the AI to specifically look at them, it took care of them pretty quickly.
In addition to that, I asked the AI to do a security check on the site and after it did so, it let me know that because I was leveraging the HIVE Keychain extension, it was fully secure. I'd take that with a grain of salt though. I at least tried to do my due diligence.
I also don't like the idea that the tile of the page says "witness roster and trading cards". I had thought about trying to make some kind of NFT project where the witness cards would be like trading cards you could collect, but that kind of felt too much like the HIVE Punks that Marky did a while ago and I didn't want to step on any toes there. I also am not even sure the AI would be able to create NFTs or a whole economy around them, so I just let it be.
Of course, with AI being so accessible now, anyone else is more than welcome to run with that idea. Just remember where you got it from when you become a HIVE whale!
