This is one of those days when I was having a really hard time trying to figure out what to write about. It isn't that there is nothing to write about, but I feel like many of the topics kicking around in my head can't or shouldn't be stretched into 500 plus words.
Why use 500+ words to say what you can in 300? What constitutes a "crap post"? Does including filler to hit that 500 word mark detract from the quality?
But I digress.
I was hanging out in the Leo Finance Discord chat the other day when a couple of people jumped in and started asking how they "earn LEO" or "earn HIVE". These people had just created new accounts on LEO and had no idea where to begin.
With onboarding tools like LEO Infra and projects from other groups popping up, I have a feeling we are going to see more and more of these cases where people have an account but they have zero idea what to do next.
As is typically the case, they made the comment that they made a post but it hadn't gotten any upvotes yet. I know pretty much all of us have been in that spot. We know the frustration of pouring your heart into something and having it just sit there with little attention or interaction.
I pointed out to them that for the first month or so they should focus mainly on commenting and maybe do an actual post only once per week. At least until they get a following and get their feet under them.
I know there are countless posts from many highly respected people on the blockchain about how to get started on Hive. I think 
The gears in my head started turning and that is what led this into being a full fledged post instead of just an entry in my Friday Finance series tomorrow.
The Pitch
Let me be clear, I am just the idea man, I have no idea how to implement this stuff or if it would even be viable. What if we created something like Coinbase has with their earn program. Call it HIVE University. It would be composed of 10 to 20 mini video modules that walk you through different aspects, actions, and philosophies of the HIVE ecosystem. After completing each module you earn .1 - .5 HIVE or something like that.
We could even use the Hive Development Fund or whatever it is called to have the funds available for the rewards. Of course someone (not me) would have to create a proposal for it and it would have to gather enough votes to break the return proposal and actually get funded.
The cool thing is after people complete this "boot camp" or "university" (call it what you will), they will have some HIVE sitting in their account.
As I was thinking about this, I immediately started to realize that people would likely abuse this service and create countless new accounts to run through the videos and take the free HIVE. I think there would need to be some kind of check in place to keep people from doing this. I am not a fan of KYC, so I would be hesitant to go that far, but clearly something would need to happen.
I know that you can send HP to people versus liquid HIVE. This might be an option and would at least force them to have to power it down before they can cut and run.
Another option would be upping the rewards from the videos and just giving them a delegation to get them started. After they have proven they are committed to the platform for three to six months, then you reward them the full amount as HP? I think that would require more overhead on the admin side as you now need people actively monitoring those accounts.
Like I said, all of that would need to be laid out in the proposal. If you are just doing a delegation, you could roll those rewards back into the program so that hopefully it would end up being self sustaining and not rely on the HBD Fund beyond the initial award.
I mentioned in a comment the other day that when you are on here every day you see posts popping up every second and it easy to forget that in the grand scheme of things we are still relatively small in terms of a community.
There will be a point where we start to grow exponentially and many people are going to find themselves here with little clue about how or where to proceed.
At the very least, I think we need some kind of official documentation linked to the https://hive.io page and even better the community front ends to give people an idea of how to get started once they have an account created. This is also the first and best chance to set the record straight about expectations for earning on HIVE.
Anyway, let me know what you think. Is it viable? Are there any glaring holes I am missing? Are you willing to take up the mantle and write the proposal for the DHF?
