I took this photograph more than a decade ago. It was taken near my apartment in Vela Luka, on the island Korchula in the southern part of Croatian Adriatic. I was there in late autumn, almost winter. Here in my hometown the climate is considerably colder, so usually you can't find lizards around in that part of the year. Especially not early in the morning.
In Vela Luka, a town with lemons and oranges in almost every garden, was very warm during the day, but you could encounter frost if you woke up early in the morning. This ice never lasted long, and on one occasion I caught a local wall lizard (one of the southern morphs, the same species as the lizards in my hometown, but looks pretty different) passing through one of these icy fields in the shade, on its way from his hole in the wall to the open sunny space.
It was a very strange scene, very fairy tale or fantasy - like. I mean how often you see warmth loving reptiles combined with ice on authentic photographs?
I never saw a wall lizard in this kind of environment before or since this occasion.
I can show you here only the small, non - enlargeable version, because this is the only one that remains.
I have all the photographs from that and maybe a few more years, on external drive that doesn't work anymore, so I downloaded the picture from a Croatian site where I used to upload photographs back then

You can see the name of the author under the photo on the site, Borjan Radolović, which is my complete real life name and my identity, so as always in these posts on HIVE, is safe to say that all the photographs are my work.
Hope that one day I'll be able to save the data from that external drive, filled with photographs of flora, fauna and architecture of that very interesting island, and show them in longer, more compelling travel stories.
