In Avowed, the video game I often talk about in the last month or so, you are always accompanied by at least one of the friends you made through your virtual adventure in The Living Lands. One of the first companions you meet after reaching the harbor of Paradis is Kai, the tall, green Aumauan sent by the local governor to protect you. Aumauan are humanoids, but they are a bit lizard-like. Or fish-like. Their teeth are uniformly sharp, and their skin is covered with scales. Kai is a coastal Aumauan. They are usually green, blue, or anything in between. The inland Aumauan who inhabit mostly desert areas have skin that matches the warm, earthy tones of their arid environment.
Very soon after entering the region called The Emerald Stairs, Kai will tell the player that he would like to visit an isolated cabin belonging to a friend he last saw a very long time ago. The name of that friend is Tama ...
... and in this first, opening screenshot, you can see the interior of his cabin. The place isn't in good shape, and Tama isn't there. I won't tell you how this story develops later in the game becouse it's a relatively long story, and this is a post about pictures; the text is here only as some kind of alibi to show a bunch of screenshots which you may or may not like.
One interesting thing, however, I'd like to mention about this Tama situation is that it doesn't get resolved or continued in the Emerald Stairs region. I totally forgot about Tama, so it was a big surprise when the story suddenly reappeared and got continued later in the game. Since I like surprises in video games, I appreciated the way the story got sprinkled in relatively small fragments across the game.
Here you can see me at the entrance, ready to open the door.
Despite being called a cabin in the game, this place looks like a house to me. A nice litlle house that looks like a scaled-down version of a Greek or Roman temple from a certain angle.
The house was built near a big rock from which you can easily reach the rooftop.
As you can see, the roof was infested with mushrooms. The infestation was quite decorative. The green person in the screenshot is Kai. I mean, the green person whose skin is green. The dude wearing the green armor is my elven avatar. The third person is a dwarf. His name is Marius. I call him Mariofil, becouse it's a Croatian name, so ... I don't know, it sounds funny to have a Mariofil in a fantasy game like this.
This is the interior again. The interior of the cabin, of course.
At some point, in the evening, we got attacked by a group of sporelings that live in the woods that surround the cabin.
Here you can see the blue mushrooms glowing in the silent night. It looks like a fungal Christmas.
The same mushrooms aren't as showy during the day.
Here you can see the impressive remains of some lost civilization. This thing, embedded in the rocks, stands very close to the Tama's cabin.
And that's it. I already said much more than I thought I would. The post ends here. THE END.
