Galawain's Tusks is a volcanic region in the northern part of the Living Lands. It is the most desolate, rugged part of that untamed island. The rocks look like threatening claws, and lava runs through the ash-covered valleys instead of water. It's a foreboding place that looks like it could easily poison your lungs and your soul.
Only dwarves call that place home, and not all of the dwarves, only an ethnic group that calls itself the Pargrunen. In the following screenshot ...
... you can see their compact, heavily fortified city. I mean, most of the city is situated in one giant building that looks almost like an architectural extension of the surrounding volcanic landscape.
The name of the city is Solace Keep. This nighttime scene shows it from a different angle. The distant city is in the background of the shot.
Here you can see more rocks, the largest volcano on the island, and one of the many smaller Pargrunen fortresses scattered across the hellish landscape.
Despite the region being dry and volcanic, the fungi are pretty abundant in some places. Here you can see some giant lichens and coral-like mushrooms.
Ok, I showed you some screenshots that can give you a good idea of what kind of place Galwain's Tusks is, and now it's time to sit down and watch a video.
I published quite a few posts about this game in the last month or two, and I often praised its combat. The feel of the combat, however, is practically impossible to convey through a screenshot, which is a still image devoid of sound. In the above video, you can finally see how things in Avowed move, flow, and how it all sounds.
The combat is dynamic; it can seem a bit chaotic, but it doesn't feel that way for the player. Everything is very responsive, the moves are cool, and the spells are colorful. The sounds enhance the experience a lot, especially if you use primitive guns, wheellock pistols, and arquebuses, with some magic properties, as I often do.
This screenshot shows a large stretch of landscape seen from the top of one of the local mountains. Lichens and mushrooms glow in the weird, greenish night of Galawain's Tusks.
A scene from the same mountain. Some lovely mushrooms that aren't typical for the region.
Here you can see one of the many lava rivers flowing through the landscape.
The ancient building shown in this screenshot is in surprisingly good shape.
The remains of that lost civilization usually look like what you can see here.
This picture shows the interior of one of those ruins.
Here you can see one of the very few farms in the wilderness that were abandoned at some point, and are now used as nests by the primitive lizard people that inhabit all regions of the Living Lands.
This is the rugged coastline of an acid lake.
Another fortress, a dwarven military outpost of sorts.
Here you can see more rocks. There's no shortage of them in Galawain's Tusks. These are abundantly covered with giant lichens and a few types of fungi. The active volcano in the background dominates the scene.
In this screenshot, you can see me standing amid the fungal growth, as one would in tall grass. The same volcano dominates the background.
Here you can see the warm colors and the overall atmosphere of the late afternoon. The following screenshot ...
... shows a nocturnal scene with Solace Keep in the background.
This is an evening scene. The screenshot was taken a minute or two before the dark. I mean, it was the midlle of the night in the real world, here where I live, but in the video game world of Avowed, the night was a few minutes further down the timeline.
Here you can see a stretch of volcanic terrain almost completely devoid of fungi. Very few places in The Living Lands look like this at night. The mushrooms are always glowing like neon lights in Las Vegas. Are the lights in Las Vegas neon lights? I don't know. Maybe? Probably? Yes, they are? Nope? You tell me.
At some point, I stopped to "photograph" this modest litlle house in the midlle of the ash-covered nowhere.
Here you can see a very different litlle house. It's an ancient one, built by a civilization that no longer exists.
What can I tell you here? Well, not much, just more mushrooms in the nighttime scenery.
I love this desolate scenery. It looks so alien and gives a bit of a scyfy feel to the fantasy setting.
This is the same litlle house I have shown earlier, only from a different angle, this time. In the following screenshot ...
... you can see the remains of a pretty big ancient palace and the relatively small fortress that the Pargrunen people had built next to it.
Here, you can see me posing near the simple hut built by Xaurips, the primitive lizard people. A bit further from where I'm standing, a bit deeper in the shot, you can see the massive ruins of the lost ancient civilization. The following screenshot ...
... shows the same area, but from a different spot, further from the buildings I just mentioned.
Another nighttime screenshot. The rocks are sharp, the lava is flowing, and the few mushrooms present in the scene are steadily glowing.
Here you can again admire the city of Solace Keep, the architectural jewel of this harsh region.
And that's it. This is the last screenshot. It's time to end the post. Hope you enjoyed it, especially the video, as much as I'm enjoying playing Avaowed almost every day in the last month or two.
