I am freewriting this from my phone, something I detest doing, but I will keep this short and to the point, in words that anyone can understand.
I hate smartphones.
I hate social media.
I hate technology.

Now, don't get me wrong--of course I recognize the immeasurable benefits that technology has provided us up to this point in time... But, in western society particularly, I feel that it has overstayed its welcome. Too many times I witness people refuse to live in the moment, instead choosing to bury their noses in their phones. In fact, I can count on my hands the number of times I have almost seen people walk straight into poles due to the distraction! 😩 The irony of a population of smartphones, growing dumber and dumber by the day. A nation of zombified morons! 😵

I despise social media and how it has deteriorated not only people's minds, but as a result society itself. This age of narcissism is growing increasingly concerning. People fighting for attention and relevancy. People whose entire worth is dependant on the validation of views. People who have fabricated lives that are built on lies, staging photographs in order to portray an image of who they would wish to be. Young people who have no work ethic because "I want to be an influencer! 🤩" The constant act of comparing yourself to everyone else and feeling inadequate. "Woke" nonsense, death threats over trivial opinions, deplorable ideas that spread like wildfire, infecting people's minds like brain worms...
I detest the idea that just because I have a smartphone suddenly everyone should be able to reach me 24/7/365. The annoying ✨ ping ✨ sound that comes with every message. "Hey, how are you doing? 😃 It's been a few hours, are you okay? 😮 What's going on?? 😟" To think that someone may not have their phone on them is unthinkable. To think that someone may not have a phone at all is unimaginable! 😱 This type of dependency is revolting. Grown adults acting like children simply because their wants aren't catered to in a timely manner: "My message was read; I'm obviously being ignored!! ðŸ˜"

The fact that it even extends to this platform, a cryptocurrency app, is insane!! 😵😵 Never mind that I have a life of my own, that I prefer to enjoy life without a phone in my hand, or that I am taking care of two babies (a fact that nearly every community is aware of, considering how much I post about them!) But "post regularly and make sure you're commenting on others' work and make sure you're being active in the group and--🙂🙃🙂" How many times have I been kicked out of communities due to what I can only assume is "inactivity" (either that, or jealousy, right?! 🤣)? As much as I enjoy the privilege of using such an app, the internet does not, and will never, take precedence over my children--sorry!~ 🤠So convenient that the Join button is free, and takes little effort to click each time!
As much as I despise sounding like a Boomer, I find myself growing more and more nostalgic for the past, and cannot help but think that we have fucked up tremendously by allowing technology to take such a priority in our lives. I miss the novelty of waiting . I miss when things would take time: waiting for my favorite TV program, receiving letters in the mail, anticipating a knock at the door from my childhood friends... I miss when kids were kids and actually played outside, not online--when they worried about kid things, not what the girls on Instagram look like. I miss when things were authentic; there was actual creativity and imagination, actual thought! 😱
As much as I hate to sound like Dr. Emmett Brown himself... We have to go back!!!
