30 January - Tuesday
Father Frost and Snow Maiden's Day is an ancient pagan holiday. These days usually tell tales and legends about Santa Claus and the Snow Maiden.
People remembered how the Snow Maiden, at the whim of the god of love, Lelya fell in love with a man and so, with the advent of Spring, she did not fly to the North. But as soon as "the bright ray of the sun is cut by the morning mist and falls on the Snow Maiden," it melts, turning into a light cloud of steam, and flies away.
On this day the Slavs revered the enemy of Perun - Frost - the hypostasis of Veles. It can be said that Frost is the winter hypostasis of Veles, just as Yar (the son of Veles and Diva) is spring.
Frost was married to the Snow Queen, the daughter of Mary and Koshchei. Frost and the Snow Queen had a beautiful daughter, the Snow Maiden.
The day of Santa Claus and Snegurka was a symbolic end of the winter, behind him was already around the corner a wide and generous Shrove Tuesday.
