It has been a couple of days since my last post. I had a little problem with finding an ispiration for my next post and today, as I was walking around the city, I told myself: why don't you write about Zagreb?! I didn't know what exactly to write, but then it occured to me! I can share my idea on how you can spend a day in Zagreb if you ever come to this lovely city my dear Steemians.
So first, I will tell you some basic info about Zagreb and Croatia.
As some of you may know, Zagreb is a capital city of Croatia.
Croatia is a small country situated on the Adriatic Sea. It is located in the southern part of middle Europe, in the northern part of the Mediterranean.
On the land, Croatia borders with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia and Montenegro and on the sea with Italy.
Apart from being the capital, Zagreb is also the biggest city in Croatia. Zagreb was formed from two settlments, Gradec and Kaptol which today are a historical centre of the city.
Likewise, Zagreb is cultural, scientific, economic and administrative center of Croatia.
You can start your day by drinking coffee at Cvjetni trg (Flower Square).
It is known for kiosks with flowers, it is filled with cafes and that is the place in the city where you go to if you want to be spotted on "špica"! On "špica Cvjetni" you will see people wearing their best clothes and having a cup of coffee at Flower Square. If your outfit is good, the photographer will "catch" it.
Don't be surprised if you see a lot of people drinking coffee at cafes because that is a culture in Croatia, whether you come to Zagreb or any other city.
And while you are there, you can go shopping at the shopping mall Cvjetni.
After you had your coffee and did some shopping, it is time to visit Gornji grad (the Upper Town). The best way to get to the Upper Town is Zagreb Funicular. It connects the downtown and the upper town. The funicular is located about 280 m from the Flower Square. It is legally protected as a cultural monument. It is the shortest rail line in the world for public access. The ride only lasts 64 seconds.
When you get to the Upper town, you'll experience one of the most beautiful city view.
While descending from the Upper town, make sure to go to the tunnel Grič. It is 350 m long and it's wide between 3,2 and 5,5 m. In the past it was used as a shelter for citizens and for today's public it was opened in July 2016.
And that would be the end of my idea for spending a day in Zagreb. Thank you for reading! 🙋
