Children are weird and I love it. My two are at the age where it is finally getting easier and I am really enjoying being a parent now. (It took me a while to adjust) They make me laugh alot with some of the mad stuff they come out with. I have a 6 year old diva who is highly intelligent and a two year old boy who has a mischievous streak and is stubborn. It remains to be seen if his IQ will match his older sister who is 90 miles per hour from 8am until she crashes badly around 7pm. The little lad is more laid back just sitting their watching the evening tantrums onfold from his heroine older sister once she starts getting tired.
My oldest is a force of nature. The grandmothers wonder where we got her out of as we were nothing like her when we were little. What I love about my daughter is that if she sets her mind to something then nothing will change that. She wanted to do gymnastics even though all her friends were doing dancing. She did not care. Her mind was made up. She joined the scouts on her own while myself and my wife looked at each other as we wouldn't go anywhere near the scouts. She also declared that she wanted to sleep naked so we were not to buy her any more pyjamas anymore. Now she does wear two things in bed. A fucking eye mask of all things and a pair of pink fluffy socks. So myself and my wife get quite alot of amusement when she goes fast asleep sprawled out on the bed naked with an eye mask and fluffy socks on her. Although lately we have been discussing what will happen when she decides to sleepover at her friends house. She will be bringing the overnight bag with only an eye mask and a pair of fluffy socks. The parents of said friends may be calling social services on us if she decides to strip off and don just the socks and the eye mask but the little one will not give two hoots because her pyjamas restricts the jumps on her bed. I will not post up a photo of her for obvious reasons in her nightwear but it is a great old laugh.
The little man on the other hand loves this fluffy blanket that he brings everywhere with him called Blue Blanky. It's a small fleece blanket that he loves and this little teddy bear muslin fleece teddy came with it that he calls baby. Blue Blanky, baby and little man are always inseparable. He is a thumb sucker and when he is tired he always located the tag on the blanky or teddy and rubs it until he goes asleep. Whenever anyone buys him a new teddy he immediately goes and rubs the tag to check if it will suit him. Any tagless teddys are put on the scrap heap and not gone near again. If he forgets his blue blanky then there is a national emergency of epic proportions. As well as that we have to sneak in at night and tear the blanky from his tight grasp to give it a wash and dry under cover of darkness.
So obviously the little guy follows his sister everywhere. I mean everywhere. But she never found this a problem. Even when her new little friends come from school, he is always beside her, always included and this is really nice out of her. The oldest could have easily rejected her new little upstart who changed her life but she really embraces him. So much so that she brings him to the toilet where he gives her the toilet roll like a servant. They then both decorate the toilet with two toilet rolls for eyes and an empty toilet roll that they stick out of the bowl as a tongue so I get a laugh when it is my turn to go and it always gives me a smile.
We called the cat Jeff after Jeff Stelling who is a sports commentator but when we moved in at the time we were unaware that the next door neighbour also went by the name Jeff. So his kids found it surprising that I used to be f'ing and blinding at Jeff out in the front garden. The little guy has not grasped yet that our cat and next door neighbour go by Jeff. The other day when Jeff(human) car passed us , he asked his mammy "Who that mammy" .
"Oh that's Jeff"
"He then looked at the cat on the couch , frowned at his mammy and stormed out."
Meanwhile naked Mcginty's dreamweaver fell off the wall in her room and she refused to go to sleep until the dreamweaver was secured back on her wall in case she had a bad dream. The little man is copying his sister with the fluffy sock wearing so in the middle of summer at 25 degree weather I am crawling around looking for the fluffy sock of a toddler.
"You will look back at these days with joy" says my mother after minding them for the day and handed them over quicker than a Clint Eastwood gunswinging technique and made fast for her automobile.
Someone told me once that children are the best and worst thing to ever happen in your life. I tend to agree but I think I am well over the worst bit of nappies and sleepless nights and the best bits are yet to come.
