Part of my daily routine is going to a nearby canal, no matter what the weather or the season. On the canal I find inspiration for many of my photos, nature always gives a lot and very little asking in return.
As always, I photographed well-known landscapes, tried to take photos from a slightly different angle, etc. As I was preoccupied with some ideas of what I should do, I heard in the distance the easily recognizable sound of the swan's wings.
One pair of swans flew along the canal, I immediately reacted and took some photos, after a few minutes I heard the same sound, I turned around and saw a whole flock of swans flying along the same route as the previous pair of swans.
To me swans have always been beautiful and graceful beings. So elegant in the water but also in the air. I like to watch them as they take off from the water, then they look a bit sluggish and clumsy but as soon as they start to fly into the air the picture changes completely. Each of their landing on the water is spectacular, I have repeatedly had the opportunity to photograph it, just always having to be in the right place at the right time.
Swans are migratory birds, but couples living on the canal rarely do so, except when the canal surface is completely frozen, then they are forced to go elsewhere. Without running water the swans are doomed to starve!
