The beginning of November brought with it rainy weather, dark clouds spilling over the sky, just for a moment a little more light appeared and made the sky more dramatic, more interesting to photograph. I remember a time a few decades ago when it was already snowing heavily at the same time, but that time is long gone and now we can barely see the snow!
As always I went to the canal to take a walk though it was a gloomy day. The only things I could photograph today are the scenery of the canal, although I have done it countless times before, I still took some photos. I waited patiently for the clouds to be positioned so as to create as interesting an effect as possible on the complete scene I was watching at that moment.
As the clouds shift, the whole scene changes constantly, the intensity of the light dramatically affects the appearance which is different from minute to minute. I could have taken hundreds of photos from one and the same position and each one would be completely different! Of course the main subjects in the photos remain the same, but the mood they convey to the viewer is highly variable.
I prefer sunny days than gloomy ones, but I have to admit that those gloomy days are much better for landscape photography, at least in my opinion and in my taste. The gloomy days possess that much needed drama that thrills me so much! The cloudless sky is empty and monotonous, while with the clouds it gets a whole new dimension that drastically changes everything.
I believe that each of us has some own special place that looks closely throughout the year and visits it regardless of the weather for several reasons: to see constant changes with own eyes, as well as to make some photographs.
As a photographer I'm constantly trying to capture what many before me have been trying to capture, I mean photographers, painters, videographers, all those who are involved with some kind of visual arts. Everyone has tried with more or less success to capture what seems elusive. I will continue to do what I have done so far, to try to make the photos of elusive!
