I never expected to have a favorite ant. It sounds ridiculous, I know how can you tell them apart? But one day, while I was bored on the patio, I began observing them. There was one tiny ant, smaller than the rest, who was constantly being pushed away. She would get pushed down, lose her position in line, and yet return. She didn't appear to have any give up in her. I began referring to her as "Tiny. "
Tiny broke the rules. While the others followed the path, she would take detours, climb over rocks, and sometimes just stop to feel the air. I started putting little drops of honey near her path, and she always managed to discover them first. She moved slower than the others, but she never gave up. She reminded me of myself on difficult days: overlooked, a bit uncomfortable, but tenacious in the greatest way possible.
It's remarkable how something so tiny can reveal so much. That ant became a little symbol of courage for me, my little rebel. My favorite ant taught me that you don't have to be large to make a difference; all you have to do is keep going.
