Happy new week to you all on this beautiful Monday, I hope you are doing great, it is with great pleasure that I will be sharing with you today in this great community the making of these two simple and colorful fabric coaster made from scrap fabric for my friend.
Most times, when having a hot drink in a cup, the heat from the hot drink usually affects the surface it is been kept, this also happens when it's a cold drink as well, then I decided to make a fabric coaster for myself to help protect the surface where my hot or cold drink is being kept from condensation or heat. When my friend saw what I made and the usefulness, she insisted that i should make for her as well, then I decided to make another design for her and her husband for their personal use.
This colorful fabric coaster was made from scrap fabric which you might think are no longer useful, join me as I take you through the cutting and sewing process below
Using two different pieces of fabric,a plain and an African print fabric, I cut out 5 pieces of circles with the diameter of 6 inches, 3 from the plain fabric and 2 pieces from the African print fabric
Two circles from each fabric were folded in two and held together with a pin
The third piece of the plain fabric was placed on a flat surface and I placed one of the folded African print fabric on it.
Then I placed one of the folded plain fabric on the middle of the African print fabric
The second piece of the African print fabric was placed on the second plain fabric and the last plain fabric, then I placed half of the plain fabric underneath the African print fabric to give me this colorful outcome
I held each side with a pin and it was taken to the sewing machine where I sew it round
The excess by the side were trimmed off and it was turned inside out through the center of the coaster
It can be top stitched round or left like this, the same process was used to achieve the other color as well and I have 2 colorful fabric coasters for my friend and her husband.
You can see how beautiful, colorful and useful this is, you can make one for yourself from those scrap fabric you thought are no longer useful. My friend is so glad to have these nice hand made piece for herself.
