Christmas walk at my workplace [ENG-ESP]

To end our last week of work before the Christmas holidays, my workplace organized a Christmas walk. Since I am new here, I didn’t know where the route would take us, and I was excited to get to know the community, as I imagined the walk would be a parade through the populated area.

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I now work in a rural area that I only knew by name and because I had occasionally driven through it on my way to another town. Well, it turned out that it wasn’t a parade but literally a sports walk. We had been asked to invite the students and their respective representatives, but unfortunately very few showed up, and none of my students attended. So the walk was mostly done by the school workers, but all of us teachers, administrative staff, laborers, and cooks attended; we all went to exercise. Since I didn't know it would be a hike, I wore blue jeans, although that didn't prevent me from walking. Ideally, I should have worn sportswear. Next time they mention a hike, I'll know what it involves and how to prepare myself.

Para terminar nuestra última semana de trabajo antes de las vacaciones de navidad, en mi trabajo se organizó una caminata navideña, como estoy nueva en el sitio no conocía por dónde seria el recorrido y me entusiasmaba conocer la comunidad ya que me imaginaba que íbamos a caminata sería un desfile dentro de la zona poblada.

Cómo comenté hace semanas, ahora trabajo en una zona rural el cual solo conocía por el nombre y por qué en ocasiones había pasado en carro cuando iba para otra localidad. Bueno, el caso es que no era un desfile sino literalmente una caminata deportiva. Se nos había pedido que convocaríamos a los estudiantes con sus respectivos representantes, pero lastimosamente fueron muy pocos los que hicieron acto de presencia y de mis estudiantes ninguno asistió. Así que la caminata fue realizada en su gran mayoría por los trabajadores de la escuela, eso sí, asistimos todos los docentes, personal administrativo, obreros y cocineros, todos nos fuimos a hacer ejercicio. Cómo no sabía que sería una caminata como tal, me fui en blue jean, aunque no fue un impedimento para caminar, lo ideal es que lo hubiese hecho en una prenda deportiva, ya sé para la próxima vez cuando hablen de caminata, sabré de que se trata y como irme preparada.

The walk began within the community, heading toward a road in a part of the parish where there are farms and small plots of land. This road is paved, and we walked until it ended. I don’t know how to calculate distances, and I didn’t ask how many kilometers there were from where we started to where we ended up, but we started walking at 8:00 a.m. and returned to the school at 9:30 a.m. We didn’t stay long at our destination; we didn’t even sit down. We just arrived and waited for those who were behind us, and then we started the walk back.

When we arrived at the school, I began to feel tired. I’m not one to exercise much, but I really enjoyed this activity, and I told the principal that he should organize more recreational and sports activities like this one. Reaching the goal wasn’t difficult, I didn’t even feel tired, but when I started walking back, I realized that I was tired and arrived at school exhausted. The good thing is that they gave us the rest of the morning off starting at 10:00 a.m. That’s how our Christmas activities ended, and today we started our December vacation until January 7, 2026.

La caminata comenzó dentro de la comunidad vía hacía una carretera en una parte de la parroquia donde se encuentran haciendas y conucos, está calle está asfaltada y caminamos hasta donde termina este asfalto. No sé calcular distancias y tampoco pregunte cuánto kilómetros habían desde donde salimos hasta dónde llegamos, pero empezamos a caminar a las 8:00 am y regresamos a la escuela a las 9:30 am y en nuestro punto de llegado no nos estuvimos mucho, ni siquiera nos sentamos. Solo llegamos y esperamos los que venían más atrasados y empezamos la caminata de regreso.

Al llegar a la escuela empecé a sentir el cansancio, no soy de hacer mucho ejercicio pero está actividad me gustó mucho y se lo dije al director, que debería organizar más actividades recreativas y deportivas como esta. Llegar a la meta no fue difícil, ni siquiera sentí cansancio pero cuando empecé a caminar de regreso fue cuando me di cuenta que si y llegué cansada a la escuela, lo bueno es que nos dieron el resto de la mañana libre a partir de las 10:00 am. Así culminaron nuestras actividades navideñas y hoy empezamos las vacaciones decembrinas hasta el 7 de enero de 2026.
