Honestly, I am not a real fan of vegetarian food as I am a meat lover. Whenever I has vegetarian food, I felt like it is dull, tasteless and unfullfiling as I will always end up craving for meat. So, I don't normally visit vegetarian restaurant. But recently, when I was at Karamunsing Complex in Kota Kinabalu City, me and my wife stumbled upon this restaurant while wandering around looking for a restaurant.

What enticed me so much to enter this restaurant is because of its name, "USAGI Japanese Vegetarian Restaurant". I was so curious to know what type of Japanese Vegetarian food that they serves.

Here is a glimpse of the inside of the restaurant.

The buffet table was neatly arranged against the wall.

They don't have any menus, what you see on the buffet table is what you are entitled to have all at the cost of RM9.90 (USD2.39). It's a self-service restaurant, so it is up to you to have as much as you want on your plate including those sushis on the conveyor belt.

These are the only types of sushis that the served, and I am a bit dissapointed with its taste. Well, what can you expect from a vegetarian sushi?

The buffet table looks more encouraging though, and looks more appetizing. Here are some pictures of the buffet meal.

Bean Sprouts, Spinach, Brinjal in Spicy Sambal, Taufu and Scrambled Egg.

The other buffet table serves Pumpkin, Japanese Taufu with Red Beans, Taufu Pok with Long Beans and Rice Vermicelli Noodle.

Now came the moment of truth, the tasting part. Since I am not really a fan of vegetarian food, so I shared the meal with my wife. She chose to have the Pumpkin, Scrambled Egg, Beansprouts, Brinjal and Japanese Taufu. To me, the taste is so and so, inbetween tasty and average.

After a moment, I finally realized that the food is no different than any local shop around the city. This is not actually a fully Japanese Restaurant that serves Japanese Food. It's menus are more of a fusion between local and Chinese menus. There is nothing special to note about this restaurant. Even the sushis are a bit dull and tasteless in my opinion.

My Conclusion

Overall, I love the ambience inside the restaurant, it is also clean and the owner is a really friendly.
The food however is not up to my expectation, but the price is quite cheap in my opinion.
Will I come back next time? Maybe, as long as they can improve their menus.
