It was various feelings that kept my hope alive, time has passed and I am still holding on to it

It was hard and sad for me to leave the classroom the way I did. The critical situation in Venezuela was the hardest at that time. I had to decide between work or me.

March 2018, I was at that time the pedagogical coordinator of an Industrial Technical School. My job required me to monitor the students, the variables that affected their school performance. Nothing was harder than to see the harsh reality of some families in the institution, it was terrible to know the statistics where the high rate of absenteeism and the causes of each one of them was evident. Getting involved could have been the worst decision. Knowing that teenagers were dropping out of school for lack of food, no one believed it.

Having so much information about the students allowed the management team to create strategic plans with the firm intention of keeping the young people in the classroom. I personally wanted to help some of them with food, love moved thoughts; love kept my hope firm.

Everything seemed to be going well but the hope was short-lived, they collapsed, I was overcome with sadness at the thought that I could not meet all the needs of the students, it was obvious, but I did not want to accept the reality.

A new light appeared in the middle of a dark path. We received help through an NGO project, offering help to 50 families with the greatest needs. It was my turn to select the pilot group, and the joy fed hope once again. The joy was also short-lived, 50 families out of an enrolment of 700 students was not enough.

It only took one day for anger, fear, sadness and impotence to come together to put an end to my hope of helping young people and of staying in my job any longer. It was enough that day when a teenager collapsed in front of me passed out from hunger and in his delirium apologised to his mother for having eaten before the hour. The food his mother had saved was supposed to be for the morning and he ate it in the evening. At two o'clock in the afternoon, the boy, without having eaten a bite, could not stand it and fainted.

This situation was decisive for me. I left school because it was my emotional health that was at stake What is hope? A thought moved by a feeling.

What feeling arouses hope? Any feeling can do that.

Is it inherent in our being? Yes, definitely yes.

Hope never dies they say, it won't die if our thoughts don't stop focusing on the goal. If we run away from situations it may die and only the attempt remains.

I ran away but then I came back to consolidate my hope.

Thank you @Emotions-feelings for this month's theme.
