Welding is really just playing with metal lego's that never come apart when you're done.
Sometimes I just make up jobs so I can buy new toys to do said job.

After installing an old bunk bed for my son in his new room we noticed part of the frame has come apart. So of course we decided to fix it. In comes the TOYS.

The welder I own is a Lincoln Pro Mig 180. It's a wire fed MIG welder. I've had it for a couple of years and it has come in handy on more then a few occasions. A welder isn't something you're likely to use everyday on your farm or homestead, but when you need one you REALLY need it.

I actually bought this welder to build pipe fencing around our property. So as luck would have It. I needed another toy to weld in the middle of a pasture.

Yep you guessed it.

Generators

Now you cant get just any generator to run a 220 volt welder. Welders pull high amps and a lot of power so we picked up this 8000 running watt generator. It was really a must have , after all I said to my wife "If our power goes out at the house we can use the generator to run any and everything we need to like the hot water heater". No one likes cold showers (least of all my wife). Boom new toy! score!

Welding

The metal on this bunk bed is so thin that all I can do is tack weld it before I burn a hole through it. Here is a video of me trying to weld this paper thin metal.

I managed to weld it together its not a nice looking weld but it should hold.

After your welding is complete you need to clean off your welds to prepare for painting.

Get The Grinder

The best way to clean the metal up is with a grinder. Grind away at the welds until everything is smooth and shiny.

Final product before painting and installing.

Without a doubt one of the most important things about welding is not smiling at any point while in the welding process. Smiling can prevent the metals from bonding on a molecular level. That and make sure your welder is grounded to whatever your welding on. ZAP.
