Is being “progressive” a lack of historical perspective? We are often taught the biblical command to not “judge” our fellow. I find this one of the hardest things to do. We often hear something negative about a person or place that should challenge our personal beliefs. I find society generally doesn’t want us to judge anymore (which is supposed to be a good thing). In fact I find the meaning of “progressive” to mean more “tolerable”, but only as long as it is not from a biblical perspective.
Conservative minds like myself often hear or say, “back in the day it wasn’t like this”. I actually now challenge this belief. I’m not really sure when things were better, or on a “positive” trajectory in terms of human behavior. Take for instance human sexuality. In this day and age we are very outwards in terms of what is acceptable. The liberal tendency to make sexuality outward and equal is not exactly something new.
Homosexuality in Roman and Greek periods was widely known and accepted. Perhaps 100 years ago things were not as accepted and more hidden, but back then it was normal. Even pedophilia in Greek culture was praised! Gd forbid we ever return to those times

Today we don’t want those things to be hidden, but then again wouldn’t it be the same as what went on 2000 years ago? Perhaps we should no longer say, “back in the day”. Perhaps we should say, “the more things change, the more they are the same”.
