La Herradura, where I live, is a tourist destination, the atmosphere of the town changes completely as soon as summer begins. At the beginning of summer, the beaches of Spain's southern coast celebrate the night of San Juan, a pagan festival that was incorporated into Christian celebrations at some point. This year, I participated in the celebration for the first time with a group of friends from the La Herradura Reading Club. It was a very beautiful ceremony. A bonfire is lit, we dance around it, symbolically throwing all that is bad into it and invoking the arrival of all that is good. Some children told stories and some guys at the club prepared queimada, a traditional Galician drink made with pomace brandy, sugar, lemon or orange peel, and coffee beans, which is burned during its preparation. It is known for the ritual that accompanies it, where a spell is recited to ward off evil spirits and attract good luck.

In La Herradura, one of the most important festivals is celebrated in the summer, the festival dedicated to the Virgin of Carmen, the patron saint of the town. This year I participated in the festival as a member of the Rociero choir. We first participated in the mass in her honor and then accompanied her singing to the beach, where it is traditional for the Virgin to embark and travel around the bay to protect the inhabitants of the town and especially the fishermen. The event ends around midnight, when the Virgin returns to the shore and there are fireworks. A very beautiful event.

Este a帽o, particip茅 en la celebraci贸n por primera vez con un grupo de amigos del Club de Lectura de La Herradura. Fue una ceremonia muy bonita. En La Herradura se celebra en verano una de las fiestas m谩s importantes, la dedicada a la Virgen del Carmen, patrona del pueblo. Este a帽o he participado en la fiesta como miembro del coro Rociero. Primero participamos en la misa en su honor y luego la acompa帽amos cantando hasta la playa, donde es tradicional que la Virgen embarque y recorra la bah铆a para proteger a los habitantes del pueblo y especialmente a los pescadores. El acto termina hacia medianoche, cuando la Virgen regresa a la orilla y hay fuegos artificiales. Un acontecimiento muy hermoso.
