There are some experiences we hide, not because we have forgotten them, but because we are afraid of how people will react and what they will say to us
For long time, I couldn't tell anyone the real reason, why my last relationship ended.
Whenever someone ask me, Bi why did you leave your ex? I'll simply say, "He cheated."
That was true tho, but it wasn't the whole truth.
The real reason was that I experienced domestic violence, physical and emotional
I was beaten over little things, when I come home late from school or church, if I don't get his approval to eat most especially if food wasn't ready on time, it could turn into a fight. I kept hoping things would get better, but they never did.
The day that changed my life happened after I choosed to end that relationship.
After I ended it, we met again, and he took my phone and forced me to go to his mother's house.
In there, he beat me so badly that I could hardly recognize myself, why did I choose to leave him, he screamed. That I'm not gonna work out of this place alive, I so much thank God that, his older brother came back and I had to chance to escape
But I left that place with physical injuries, and emotional pain that lasted much longer.
That was the moment I knew I had to choose myself and I have to do something before another thing befalls me
I reported the case to the police, and a restraining order was given to keep him away from me. It wasn't an easy decision, but it was the right one.
After that experience, I became afraid of relationships. I found it difficult to trust men because I kept thinking every relationship would end the same way.
I stayed single for almost a year because I needed time to heal.
Recently, my partner asked me if there was anything about my past that he doesn't know. I was nervous, but I decided to tell him everything. Instead of judging me, he listened and encouraged me to forgive my ex, but he also reminded me never to give him another chance to hurt me.
That advice stayed with me till date
I have forgiven my ex, but forgiveness does not mean allowing him back into my life. Some doors should remain closed for your own peace and safety.
To every woman reading this, please remember this:
• Love should never leave you living in fear, if someone hits you once, don't convince yourself it will stop on its own.
• Abuse often starts with "just one slap" before it becomes something much worse.
• You deserve a relationship where you feel safe, respected, and valued.
• Walking away from abuse is not a sign of weakness, it is the bravest thing you will ever do.
Today, I am not sharing this story to gain sympathy, i am sharing it because I know another woman may be carrying a similar secret. If that's you, please know this that you are not alone, and your life is worth protecting.
Healing takes time, but it is possible.
Thank you for reading, Ladies of Hive

Spanish translation...
He perdonado a mi ex, pero perdonar no significa permitirle volver a mi vida.
