I started YouTubing a few years ago. Recently my channel had started to grow, my subscribers had been increasing exponentially, and my views had gone 'viral' by my standards. My total ad revenue earned is even just a little more than $10 away from their minimum required for me to get my first check. I was starting to think that maybe the time I'd invested over the last three years was going to start to pay off, and I was planning on spending 2018 creating a bunch of new content.
Things were going great until I received the 'Dear John' letter that everybody else with a small channel on YouTube received yesterday. YouTube decided that they weren't going to allow me to monetize my videos any more.
Given that, and the fact that they have chosen to shut channels down for what I would call 'political' reasons, I've decided that YouTube can go pound sand for all I care. Apparently they have forgotten that it was the little guys who made the platform popular in the first place.
I like to think I'm a pretty good amateur photographer, and that I have a fairly good grasp on the written word. I'm hoping that these skills help me grow a decent blog here on Steemit. I'm also fairly decent at creating videos, and thanks to DTube there is a place for them here too. So I'll be saying goodbye to YouTube and embracing all things Steemit. It kind of sucks starting over, but I'm going to look at it from the perspective of being granted a new beginning.
