About Books and Magazines Purchased from the Book Fair - Kitap Fuarından Alınan Kitap ve Dergiler Hakkında - (Eng-Tr)
Hello Dear @HiveTr Friends;
How are you? In my previous post, I told you about my observations at the TÜYAP book fair that I went to last Sunday. I briefly talked about the intensity of the fair, the large number of booths and the presence of many writers, filmmakers and popular names there.
As a second share, I would like to talk about the books and magazines I bought at the TÜYAP book fair. Basically, I wanted to take it from authors I hadn't read before. My basic principle in reading books is to read a lot and to read at least one book from each author. Yes, we may not like all writers or popular names, but the important thing is to love people with their works. To give an example; İlyas Salman is one of the leading figures of Turkish cinema. We love him for his movies and his art life. However, according to some, his political or current life may not be met with a positive reaction. But that doesn't make him a bad or unsuccessful filmmaker. For this reason, people should always be judged by their works.
First of all, I would like to tell you about the magazine, one of the few KAFA magazines I bought, where the historian and writer İlber Ortaylı both wrote articles and appeared on the cover of this issue. KAFA magazine is a magazine where writers pour their heart out on humor, literature and agenda. It is one of the journals that contains articles in which the essay type predominates among the literary genres and has a similar one in Turkey. I got to know this magazine about 5 years ago. I learned about this and several similar magazines from people and friends who came together for the same purpose, although it was not their own decision. They were nice people. Many rode beautiful horses and left.
KAFA etc. I try to buy a few magazines from time to time, though not all the time. I also recommend you to read the magazine. Every magazine is like a book.
Prof. İlber Ortaylı; We started to recognize him from the television programs that we all know, especially in the last ten years, for comments and information on history. After a while, İlber Hodja started to be popular in the society with his words about ignorance, which he said against ignorant people who have not read yet, because the society asks simple questions, asks questions about the subjects that he does not enlighten himself, or tries to give answers to the subjects that he does not know. He is extremely sympathetic. He became a person who made people love him by making knowledgeable and level comments in his field.
Merhaba Sevgili @HiveTr Dostları;
The second book I want to show is; The History of Countries that I noticed while browsing the books. There is a lot of information about the history of the big countries that we know, although not very extensive, given in summary. I especially want to read a little bit about the history of Russia. The reason was that I was curious about the narratives of an acquaintance of mine who worked as an associate professor in Russia for eight years and wanted to get information. According to him; The Russians did not have the knowledge to establish a state, they asked for all the help from Finland in the past. There are many interesting things in the history of Russia.
And Forough Farrokhzad... The great Iranian poetess. She is a woman who tries to write poems under pressure, or rather, who wants to express herself. It is a destiny common to all societies in the world. Woman; He always waited for the next to do something. Actually, he didn't wait. At some point after each step, a woman took the step of rebellion and showed herself, even more, that she could do it for other women.
We all know Sabahattin Ali. However, it is necessary to know him not only with Madonna in a Fur Coat, The Devil in Us or Yusuf from Kuyucak, but also with his other books. He even talks about the cat with his poetry books. Years later, Edip Akbayram sang the poem "Aldırma Gönül", which he wrote in Sinopp prison. In fact, the director Ertem Eğilmez, who is a close friend of Sabahattin Ali, used his song in the movie Hababam Class is on Holiday, and Sabahattin Ali is one of the names written on the board of the male students who draw lots with the girls. :)
Sabahattin Ali'yi hepimiz biliyoruz. :)
Hayy Bin Yakzan; It is the first novel of Islamic literature. This work, which very few people know, is actually the book that inspired Robinson Cruise, which is considered one of the world classics. It is the first example of the difficulties of living in a place, the wisdom, the psychology and the life that goes on the way of learning something. In case some of you may remember, let me explain it to you as follows; When I was little, I watched a cartoon on TV. In fact, many people watched it in the early 2000s. A multitude falls on an island with a plantation. The next time I watched him in his entire state, his family fleeing the war leaves him in the water and the sea takes him to the island. There, a gazelle breastfeeds her, and this child, named Hayy, is slowly growing up next to the gazelle, whom he later sees as his mother, and his struggle to hold on to life. He discovers many things on his own. He eventually learns to speak and read from a wise old man who came to the island as an adult. And the old man discovers the wisdom in him and they set out together to inspire people. It is a very beautiful cartoon that has a great place in my memories.
The theologian writer İhsan Eliçık was one of the names in the book fair. And I had him sign a book, too. I had not read any of his works before. That's why I bought it because there was at least one work. A brief memoir about him; While he was getting a book signing there, he was telling his friend on the phone that he would come by metrobus, that he could not go by car or taxi in traffic. :)
I saw the name Panait Istrati for the first time. That's why I bought it in hopes of discovering a new rebuke. However, it was the translator Yaşar Nabi Nayır that caught my attention more. He is one of the poets and writers whose name we hear a lot in literature classes in high school and university preparation period. He is one of the Seven Torchmakers and the founder of the long-running Varlık magazine.
Many of us have heard of Pierre Loti. But it is a name we are familiar with from the hill in Eyüp Sultan cemetery. In fact, he is a writer. But he is the explorer of the hill in the cemetery, which is thought to have been discovered during his stay in Istanbul or because he first mentioned it somewhere. Of course, the people of that region knew there, of course. But because it was mentioned in a newspaper or in one of his works, it attracted people's attention, and later it became a place that took its current form by editing.
We know the name Turgenev from the book Fathers and Sons. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to read any of his works yet. I bought one of his works to read. But unfortunately Ivan Turgenev; He died in a duel at an early age. Who knows what else he would leave behind.
I briefly mentioned İlyas Salman both in my previous post and at the beginning of this post. So I bought this book where he collects his memories. I've always been curious about his works on movie memoirs.
I briefly mentioned KAFA magazines above. It's good to read a magazine once in a while. Moreover, since there are many different authors in the magazines, you read a piece of each of them.
Vehbi Vakkasoğlu, on the other hand, has adopted the concept of 'love' as his motto and has written works on it. He has always maintained his vitality and positive impact on our society with his works. I bought this book for someone I know and had it signed on his behalf. In fact, if I could afford it, I would like to receive a signed work from every guest and author at the fair. I would have known many people whose names I did not know, and I would have read a work from all of them.
What can be said about Stefan Zweig? In fact, he was a writer that I admired while reading the book 'Chess', which I picked up at a time when I had little desire to read, just because the book was thin and it would be finished quickly. We taught a lot about world classics throughout our school life, we tried to read a lot, but I did not hear any mention of Stefan Zweig during neither high school nor university preparation period. Or maybe it's barely mentioned. However, he is one of the best writers among writers. I try to read almost all of his works. In particular, his work called 'Mecburiyet' was my favorite book. Besides all his works, I especially recommend his book 'Mecburiyet'.

We have read many books: We all have our own top three books. And the books he almost never thought of changing. You know, you read a lot of books on top of it, but the ones you say do not replace the first three. Here is the 'Brothers Karamazov' by Dostoyevsky, which is the second book for me. This is the best novel I've read since Les Misérables. I continue to read other works of Dostoevsky from time to time.
Of course, it makes sense for me to write something about the good and useful aspects of reading books. But most of us are already aware of this. The more we read, the more we enjoy the next time we read it. Reading a book is just like the blessings of heaven. Heavenly blessings are flavors that increase their taste a little more each time they are eaten. In the books it is; Although we say that old books are better, beautiful and quality books continue to be published. Do you know how grapes are in heaven? When you eat one, a new one pops up immediately. There is no long-term source of regrowth there. God, who has determined the time for a tree to mature in thirty years, does this in a second. Time is not important, in the realization of the same thing...
