The Gift of Sensitivity: My Desire to Give Empathy Back to the World | LOH #292

​¡Hola comunidad de Ladies of Hive! Espero que estén teniendo una semana maravillosa, llena de luz, bendiciones y de esa unión tan bonita que nos caracteriza. ​La iniciativa de esta semana nos invita a soñar en grande, a jugar un poco con la imaginación y a mirar profundamente hacia adentro. Para sumarnos a ella, la propuesta nos plantea lo siguiente: "Si un genio mágico pudiera concederte un (y sólo uno) deseo, ¿cuál sería ese deseo y por qué?". Al leer esto, me quedé pensando por un buen rato. Si un genio real apareciera frente a mí con esa oportunidad de oro, confieso que mi mente no iría hacia lo material, la riqueza o el beneficio propio. Al mirar a mi alrededor y ver la realidad actual, mi corazón sintió la necesidad de pedir algo que el mundo está gritando a voces que necesita.
​Mi deseo para el genio sería la capacidad de despertar una empatía profunda y genuina en el corazón de cada ser humano; el don de que todos podamos sentir el dolor ajeno como propio para actuar siempre desde la compasión y el respeto.
​A medida que el tiempo avanza y la sociedad se vuelve más rápida, digital e individualista, da la alarmante impresión de que nos estamos volviendo más fríos e indiferentes a lo que le pasa al vecino. Me duele profundamente ver cuánta maldad e indolencia hay a veces en las calles. Se me rompe el alma al ser testigo del maltrato, el abandono o la indiferencia hacia los animalitos, seres puros e indefensos que no tienen voz para defenderse ni para pedir ayuda. De igual manera, es triste ver cómo muchas personas pasan de largo ante la necesidad del prójimo, como si el sufrimiento de los demás fuera un paisaje invisible que no les pertenece.

Hello, Ladies of Hive community! I hope you're having a wonderful week, full of light, blessings, and that beautiful unity that characterizes us. This week's initiative invites us to dream big, to play with our imaginations, and to look deeply within. To participate, the prompt asks: "If a magic genie could grant you one (and only one) wish, what would that wish be and why?" Reading this, I pondered it for quite some time. If a real genie appeared before me with that golden opportunity, I confess my mind wouldn't turn to material things, wealth, or personal gain. Looking around and seeing the current reality, my heart felt the need to ask for something the world is desperately crying out for.

My wish for the genie would be the ability to awaken deep and genuine empathy in the heart of every human being; the gift of being able to feel the pain of others as our own, so we can always act with compassion and respect. As time goes on and society becomes faster, more digital, and more individualistic, it gives the alarming impression that we are becoming colder and more indifferent to what happens to our neighbors. It deeply pains me to see how much cruelty and indifference there is sometimes on the streets. My heart breaks when I witness the mistreatment, abandonment, or indifference shown to animals, pure and defenseless beings who have no voice to defend themselves or ask for help. Likewise, it is sad to see how many people walk right past the needs of others, as if the suffering of others were an invisible landscape that doesn't belong to them.

​La empatía no es solo un valor opcional; es el pegamento que nos mantiene verdaderamente humanos. Con este deseo concedido por el genio, me encantaría que la humanidad recuperara la hermosa capacidad de conmoverse. Que al ver a un ser vivo en una situación vulnerable, sintiéramos el impulso inmediato de protegerlo y ampararlo; que al ver a una persona atravesando una tormenta, extendiéramos una mano amiga en lugar de mirar hacia otro lado o juzgar desde la comodidad. ​Sé que la magia de los cuentos no puede borrar todas las injustices del planeta de la noche a la mañana, pero estoy convencida de que transformar el corazón humano a través de la empatía cambiaría el rumbo de absolutamente todo. Si aprendiéramos a ponernos en el lugar del otro, la maldad se reduciría, el egoísmo daría paso a la solidaridad y construiríamos un refugio seguro para todos. Mi deseo es, en esencia, un ruego por un mundo más suave, consciente y compasivo, donde el amor y el respeto dejen de ser la excepción y se conviertan en nuestra forma natural de vivir.

Empathy isn't just an optional value; it's the glue that keeps us truly human. With this wish granted by the genie, I would love for humanity to rediscover the beautiful capacity to be moved. That upon seeing a living being in a vulnerable situation, we would feel the immediate impulse to protect and shelter them; that upon seeing a person going through a storm, we would extend a helping hand instead of looking the other way or judging from the comfort of our own homes. I know that the magic of stories can't erase all the injustices on the planet overnight, but I'm convinced that transforming the human heart through empathy would change the course of absolutely everything. If we learned to put ourselves in someone else's shoes, evil would diminish, selfishness would give way to solidarity, and we would build a safe haven for everyone. My wish is, in essence, a plea for a gentler, more conscious, and compassionate world, where love and respect cease to be the exception and become our natural way of life.
