Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard tossed a coin, yes they had to toss a coin to decide the name of the company. Both the founders were dubious about the name for the company. Packard-Hewlett or Hewlett-Packard. Packard won the toss but instead they named it as Hewlett-Packard
PH would be so weird.
Initially, Skype was named as Sky-Peer-to-Peer. Then it was minimized and named as Skyper. Again, they skipped the alphabet ‘r’ and changed it to Skype when they realized that ‘skyper.com’ domain was already taken!
