Bob Dylan and Post Malone's Unfinished Collaboration
You know Bob Dylan, the legendary songwriter, right? Well, he had a thing going with rapper Post Malone during the pandemic. They were working on a song together, but guess what? They never finished it.
So, there's this producer named Michael Cash who had a cool idea a few years back. He thought, "What if hip-hop artists like Malone, Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole covered Bob Dylan's songs?" Kind of like a twist on Dylan's tunes. Cash got the nod from T Bone Burnett, who produced an album with Dylan's songs re-imagined by other artists in the past.
Cash reached out to Dylan's manager, Jeff Rosen, and pitched the idea of Malone covering one of Dylan's songs. He even showed a picture of Malone's Dylan tattoo to prove he's a mega fan. He sent a link to Malone's version of "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right." Rosen was on board and said Dylan had something cooking for this.
A song idea called "Be Not Deceived" was in the works. It had lyrics about losing innocence and stuff. Malone got all emotional about it and shed some tears. In March 2021, Malone hit Cash's studio in upstate New York to lay down the track. They got around 40% of it done, but then things got a bit blurry.
Turns out, the project hit a dead end. Rosen took back the lyrics and the song stayed in limbo. In 2022, Malone spilled the beans on The Tonight Show. He hadn't met Dylan face-to-face, but they had a virtual chat. Malone sees Dylan as a voice in his head, an inspiration.
Cash, the producer, is hoping that Dylan and Rosen might hand over the lyrics so they can finish up the song. He's all about sharing the music that these two important musicians worked on. It's a bit of a weird story, but hey, let's hope the song sees the light of day in the end.
