I have only really had one pet in my life, and it was a dog. It wasn't exactly because we wanted a pet in the traditional sense. The dog was brought home mainly for security reasons. At the time, the idea was that we needed a dog that could guard the house, bark when someone unfamiliar came around and generally make people think twice before trying anything funny.
So, in my mind, this was not really going to be a friendship, it was more like an employee. Lol! The dog had a job, and that job was security, but, as you can probably imagine, that didn't quite work out that way or else i wouldn鈥檛 be writing this at this time. When you live with an animal for long enough, it becomes difficult to continue seeing it as just an animal that happens to be living in your compound, before long, the dog became more than just a guard dog. It became part of the household.
I was much younger at the time, so I don't remember every single detail of having the dog, but I remember the feeling of knowing it was there. There was something comforting about coming home and seeing the dog around. Even though it had originally been brought in for security, there was eventually an attachment that came with having another living thing around the house.
Unfortunately, the dog eventually died, how did it die? It was bitten by a snake. I was much younger when it happened, and I remember how strange it felt because death isn't something you necessarily understand properly when you are young. You just know that something that was there yesterday isn't going to be there anymore. One day you are used to seeing the dog around the house, and then suddenly you aren't.
That was probably the end of my family's experience with having pets. We never got another dog after that. I think part of it was simply that the circumstances had changed, but there was also something about losing the first one that made getting another pet less appealing. Once you become attached to an animal, you also realise that pets don't live forever. You eventually have to deal with losing them, and when you are young, that can be a difficult thing to process. So Yeah id say im a dog person definitely, i love dogs, they are very loyal animals and they are well and truly mans best friend. When i finally get my own house i am definitely going to get a dog.
