My first knitted cardigan

Greetings and blessings, my dear needle friends. I hope you are doing very well with health and wellness. I wish with all my heart that this is a week full of inspiration, creativity and many projects.

This Monday is a holiday here in Colombia and I took the opportunity to put some order in my crafts. My nephew brought me some of my mom's things from Venezuela (fabrics, skeins, balls of yarn, projects she made and some other unfinished projects, and it was only now that I took them out to put them in order in the boxes where I have my materials.

For today, Monday of needles, I want to show you what I had promised: the sweater or cardigan I made for my daughter.

Saludos y bendiciones, mis queridas amigas de las agujas. Espero que estén muy bien con salud y bienestar. Deseo de todo corazón que esta sea una semana llena de inspiración, creatividad y muchos proyectos.

Este lunes es festivo acá en Colombia y aproveché para poner un poco de orden en mis manualidades. Mi sobrino me trajo de Venezuela unas cosas de mi mamá (telas, madejas, ovillos de hilo, proyectos que hizo y alguno que otro proyecto sin terminar, y hasta ahora fue cuando las saqué para ordenarlas en las cajas donde tengo mis materiales.

Para hoy, lunes de agujas, quiero mostrarles lo que les había prometido: el suéter o cárdigan que le hice a mi hija.

I had never knitted clothes before, so this project has been a challenge and an adventure for me. I have always loved grannys, but until now I had only used them for small projects and other ideas. Although I had wanted to try it for a long time, it was at my daughter's request that I ventured a step further and took on the challenge of knitting a cardigan with grannys for her.

There were seventy-two grannys in all, each one knitted with patience and excitement, imagining how they would look together in the end. I was knitting these grannys for almost three months with some breaks for family commitments. Thus, the weaving took shape and when it was time to join the pieces together, I felt a bit nervous and happy at the same time, as the result was not far away.

It has been a learning process and, although those who master this type of weaving may notice some mistakes, for me it has been a very valuable experience. I know I still have a lot of room for improvement, but I enjoy every stitch and every challenge that comes my way. This cardigan is just the beginning, because I am willing to continue learning and perfecting my technique, and I'm sure it won't be the last one, I already have new ideas in mind.

Now, seeing her wearing the cardigan I made for her, I can't help but smile and feel satisfaction and pride. It is my first knitted clothing project and I love the way it turned out.

Nunca antes había tejido ropa, así que este proyecto ha sido todo un reto y una aventura para mí. Siempre me han gustado los grannys, pero hasta ahora solo los había usado para pequeños proyectos y otras ideas. Aunque quería intentarlo desde hace tiempo, fue por petición de mi hija que me aventuré a dar un paso más allá y asumí el reto de tejer un cárdigan con grannys para ella.

Fueron setenta y dos grannys en total, cada uno tejido con paciencia y emoción, imaginando cómo se verían juntos al final. Estuve tejiendo estos grannys por casi tres meses con algunas pausas por compromisos familiares. Así, el tejido fue tomando forma y cuando llegó el momento de unir las piezas, sentí algo de nervios y alegría al mismo tiempo, pues ya faltaba poco para ver el resultado.

Ha sido un proceso de aprendizaje y, aunque quienes dominan este tipo de tejido quizás noten algunos errores, para mí ha sido una experiencia muy valiosa. Sé que aún tengo mucho por mejorar, pero disfruto cada puntada y cada reto que se me presenta. Este cárdigan es solo el comienzo, porque tengo la disposición de seguir aprendiendo y perfeccionando mi técnica, pues, seguro que no será el último, ya tengo en mente nuevas ideas.

Ahora, al verla llevar el cárdigan que le hice, no puedo evitar sonreír y sentir satisfacción y orgullo. Es mi primer proyecto de ropa tejida y me encanta cómo quedó.
