ATFS’s New Partner, Farm1st

Farm1st is led by Korea’s leading expert in precision farming, Montana Lee.

Montana Lee has been farming for most of his life and spreading his knowledge and belief in outdoors NFT farming as well as simple automations implementable for many farmers around Korea. Farm1st also helps on consulting and setting up farming projects brought on by the South Korean and other international governments.

ATFS and Farm1st have partnered up to collect and confirm data on various lettuces cultivated through outdoor NFT farms shown below. This is our first step in building our Smart Farm 2.0.

The key performance indicators in this type of farming are the same as smart farms:

• A massive amount of produce needs to sprout at the same time and grow in identical speed, weight and size.
• The harvesting cycle should be as high as it can be; for most lettuce types, this set-up harvests 7 times per year versus 11 that a usual greenhouse smart farm would produce.
• Lastly, the environment set-up is controlled enough to be set up in other regions.

As you can see, the number of harvests differ, but when comparing the difference in initial CAPEX costs between the outdoors NFT and a greenhouse smart farm, the outdoors NFT farming is a great way to get our foot in the door while producing results. Another added bonus of outdoors NFT farming is its flexibility for expansion as it does not require perfectly flat land like greenhouse smart farms.

Smart Farm 2.0’s advantage of creating an artificial environment suitable against typhoon, snow, and wind is highly based on economical means. Therefore, for now, we have decided on another cost-effective method to collect needed data for best harvesting output for when we operate a full smart farm.

ATFS and Farm1st’s first goal is to gather data and thereafter start expanding the outdoor NFT farms in Korean regional work to other nations as our first step into the smart farming industry.
