I'm in therapy. I have no shame about it whatsoever.
I needed therapy because after years of trying to sort out my shit myself, I was processing it a bit but not everything. And it took me a long time to realize that.
I truly thought that I was working it all out and to a certain extent I was but the mountain was too high to climb on my own.
I needed help.
And I knew it.
Even though it took me a while to really admit that to myself. I have this innate feeling that I have to be able to do everything on my own so reaching out and asking for help was a very big step to take.
But I am so so so happy I did take that step.
Because it's working!
And want to know how I know that it is working?
Because I am feeling worse now than I did before.
Pretty ironic right?
But it's true.
In my experience, I am going to feel a hell of a lot worse whilst I go through the depths of my pysche combing through the mess that I've been in all these years.
Bringing up painful memories, traumatizing events and whatnot.
That shit is not easy.
And the feelings that come with it are even harder.
But it's good. So so so good.
Even when I am feeling my lowest, I know that this is happening for a reason.
TO MAKE ME FEEL BETTER.
TO BECOME A BETTER VERSION OF MYSELF.
And that is very much worth it.
I can't believe it took me so long to realize that I needed to this but hey, it's a process right?
I'm just glad I made the decision to finally go ahead and that is it doing its thing.
I wanted to write this post because I've realized that by sharing my own experience of therapy, it has helped others make a choice to start therapy too.
And who knows who may read this post and it'll be the catalyst to start the therapy journey.
Hope you are all well!
Over and out,
Ashley
