I've always talked about my gambling problem that I had some few years back and how hard it was for me to get out of it. That whole experience was something that I felt shaped me into becoming the better man that I am today.
Earlier today, I had seen this page that is focused on gambling addiction, and what this guy would do on his page is to listen and share the story of other gamblers and the many damages gambling had done to them in one way or the other.
You see, in as much as I knew that I had a gambling issue, stumbling on that page today not only made me realize how bad gambling in general is, but it also made me understand that my case wasn't as simple as I always thought it was.
And the reason I say that is because back in the day, there was a time I had become so addicted to gambling that sometimes, the reason why I gambled wasn't just to make money but to keep myself busy because I now found it to be kind of like a safe place for me.
It's crazy I didn't realize this until today, but there were times I had gambled simply because it felt like therapy. So basically I found myself in a situation where the money wasn't the inspiration anymore, but the adrenaline that I felt every time I watched my phone screen, wondering if I was going to outsmart them or vice versa.
And what made me realize it today was when someone on that page had mentioned the same thing and described the exact feeling I felt those many years ago. Hearing him talk about it gave me chills because it made me realize that the entire situation might have been a lot more serious than I ever thought it was.
