Sand vipers are funny snakes, they bury themselves in the sand then when they feel prey close they lunge and eat.
And now for the process.
A pencil sketch to begin. Done with my blackwing matte pencil.
I begin with the head and some experimentation with different ways of getting the texture of scales. Also lookit their cute little head.
More scales! also some dots for the sand.

Nothing to complicated about it, it's just dots/stippling.
I did lots of stippling for the sand and I think I captured the the sand coming over the snake as he burrowed in.
