I spent my morning dehydrating pears, apples and tomatoes from my garden to turn into tomato powder and place in canning jars for my prepper pantry.
I also played with Augustine for a bit...
And finish my chores as I usually do in the morning.
After a delicious BLT my mom stopped by w a couple of cones of “Piloncillo”.
What is piloncillo?
Well, piloncillo is cane juice that is minimally processed into a syrup which is poured into cone molds and left to crystallize and harden.
It’s as pure as sugar can get!
Its taste is reminiscent of caramelized sugar With hints of earthy rum. Nothing like molasses or brown sugar as the flavor is more rich. It goes great in cinnamon black coffee “cafe de olla” or melted into a syrup for deserts!
The part the I love is it lasts indefinitely. I place the piloncillo cone in a ziploc bag and break it up with a hammer into pieces. I throw it all into mason jars. Easy right? This is a great item if you’re stocking up your pantry!
You can always find piloncillo at any Latin market. Usually each cone is no more than $1.
I grew up having this staple in my kitchen and it’s smell and taste will always be something very nostalgic to me. What do you keep your pantry stocked with?
Hope you are all staying safe and healthy!
