Too Much Bread?

Recently, we have switched preference to the good 'ol samoon from an Arabic bakery near hubby's office. Samoon looks similar to a hotdog bun, that is both buttery and milky in taste. Before, I used to buy pandesal almost daily at a Filipino bakery also near his office, but nowadays their pandesal have gone smaller and even the taste and quality of the bread also changed.

For the same spend of AED 5 ($1.36), we get to have 20 pieces of samoon bread already. That is a lot! Yesterday morning, hub bought again and the kids were not in a bread-eating-kinda-mood so there's a lot of bread left this morning that I know they won't eat again unless I do something.

French Toast

French toast is their favorite (next to crepe or pancakes) and it is also something that I like to prepare for them especially when I do not have any jams or spread to serve the bread with.

The ingredients are simple and it is indeed a very easy way to finish any bread that is stocked on the shelf. I normally use slice bread for French toasts, so with the samoon, I would have to be a bit more creative.

French Toast Pudding

I saw French toast pudding on my last night and (ding!) I got the inspiration to do the same. Most recipes suggest soaking the bread to the custard mixture overnight, but I did not have the time to do that.

So without further ado, here's what I did to serve my kids with their favorite French toast.

Edited the collage just because. :D Shoutout to @travellingmercies for the inspo.

I sliced up 3 pieces of samoon and arranged them on the baking dish. While doing so, I was already pre-heating the oven.

I ended up using 4 eggs and about 2 cups of milk. I do not have specific measurements because most of the time I only eyeball my ingredients.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in water bath for about 15 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes.

Let it rest for about 5 minutes before serving.

Enjoy the wonderful breakfast!

You can go a step further by sprinkling icing sugar over the pudding and serving it with fruits or berries and syrup on the side.

I am happy with the way mine turned out though, and I don't want to stimulate my ever hyper kiddos by serving them with too much sweets!
