God condemns drunkenness.

Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbor! Woe to you, who bring him your gall, and make him drunk to look at his nakedness! "
This drunkenness was a little different from the one mentioned in verse 5. There God said that the man given to wine was treacherous. But what I was saying here was something really tragic: "woe to the one who gives drink to his neighbor!" That is to say, that alcohol was used as a method to lead people to commit immoral acts, which have as consequence the collapse of morality. In a society that exercised these practices, men committed a series of faults that we can call "sins", such as lack of honesty, ignorance of the truth, or try to change it, for personal gain.

That is the condemnation we have in this verse. The prophet accused them of making people drunk, and of perverting their fellows in order to make them addicted to drinking and alcoholics for life.

It is true that many young people have fallen into the networks of alcoholism and drugs for the examples they saw, first at home, but also to follow the current to others, their friends, for the desire to be accepted in their group, to not be different or differentiate from others. The lack of communication, of maintaining an open and frank dialogue between parents and their children are in most cases the reason why adolescents and young people end up in regrettable situations that could have been avoided. For lack of a suitable model of a father or mother, to keep the lines of communication open, with a firm but affectionate attitude, with time and genuine interest in the problems of their children; By lacking these expressions of affection, many young people make wrong decisions that will only create problems, sadness and personal instability. Most problematic young people are the consequence of a ruined home, due to lack of understanding, love, respect and discipline exercised with maturity and criteria by parents interested in the welfare of their children. How many parents fill their children with "material things", but forget to give them love and time. A loving hug in time can avoid many evils. How much responsibility to be a father or mother! And since no one teaches us to be good fathers or mothers, even if we read good books and consult professionals, however, we can go to our Heavenly Father, and ask for the necessary advice, and also the wisdom we lack, so as not to make mistakes in the correct formation of our children.

We return to Habacuc. We can imagine that it must not have been very popular in Babylon, where his prophecy had come. Its inhabitants discovered that God condemned drunkenness, but also judged those who induced and encouraged them. We read verse 16 of this chapter 2 of Habakkuk:

The life of an alcoholic is a hell, and affects all those around him. Many times that condition, that illness, breaks the marriage, destroys the home, creates unsustainable economic situations, and above all, causes suffering in the children that will mark them for life. Habakkuk warned, in the name of God, about the consequences of that behavior.

Violence is another fruit of the absence of God in a life, in a society, in a culture. God puts His moral and ethical code in those who seek Him, obey Him and love Him. Their law of justice, peace, love and respect can change the person, and therefore, also society. How many tragedies and tragedies could be avoided if the laws of God were observed!
