Good morning to all pet lovers. Today I want to talk to you about that moment when one of our furry children dies and the place to bury him.

PETS ARE PART OF THE FAMILY

For many of us, pets are part of the family. In my particular case, each rescued and later adopted becomes not only a member of the family but also an important part of my home. Beings that deserve to have the same care and respect of all the other members; either for their food, hygiene and rest. That is why when a member of the pack dies, it is as if a vital part of us also died with him.

The pet that stayed with me the longest since birth, because it was one of my Pitbull's puppies, was my beautiful Ruder, one of the most loved pets, it belonged to mom and dad American Pit Bull Terrier, and they were both ours. The female died of Ehrlichiosis and the male died in an accident. Ruder stayed by my side for almost 13 years, and he was one of the most faithful and tender pets I have ever had, he was never aggressive, which broke the paradigm of pit bulls, and we had to sacrifice him with the greatest pain of my soul since he had very advanced cancer and was suffering a lot.

Ruder was sociable, he shared with all the people who visited my house, he liked to be pampered, and he slept at the foot of my bed... I even got up early for his usual walk and breakfast. He was quite a character, fat and robust.

WHEN A PET DIES

When Ruder died I swore in the midst of my pain not to have any more pets, since Patitas, a beautiful dog rescued from a liver problem, also died a few weeks later, but Snowflake came to my life, an old poodle who came to fill my heart with more love for the animals on the street. I was fostered after rescuing him and fell in love with him so much that I decided to keep him. But he didn't last with me for many years, he left me as soon as he arrived, it wasn't easy for me to accept that that tender little piece of cotton was gone. He was a faithful and loving companion while he was by my side.

HOW TO GET BACK FROM THE ABSENCE OF A PET

Recovering from the absence of a pet is not easy, even less so if it has shared with us for so many years and has become one more old man in the house by seniority. Rarely have I had a pet that lasted so many years by my side, although I have had old rescued pets and we have given them a lot of love during their last years of life, precisely as in the case of Snowflake. Ruder was the one who lasted the longest with us.

Forgetting them is impossible, that will never happen. I remember every pet I've had since I was a child, and I've lost count, but I've loved all of them in a special way, and all of them have loved me immensely. There are a series of suggestions to consider when losing a pet, and in my opinion they are the following:

ec2f6bb679c8c4f1b53d334809bd2d5b.jpg

1)Our pain in the face of that loss is genuine, we should never feel inhibited from crying our sadness since that is comforting.

2)Do not try to control that pain, draining it will allow us, along with the passing of time, to gradually overcome it.

3)We have to talk about it since that makes us let go of all those mixed feelings. If you want, you can write it, tell your story, make a poem with your most beautiful moments, or just talk to someone who understands and understands what is happening to us. That will make us feel a little better.

4)There are people who think differently from us about the love towards pets, do not let any comment about your reaction affect you... everyone assumes and expresses her feelings as her heart dictates.

5)Many wonder if it is advisable to have a new pet after the loss of another. I almost closed myself to that possibility, but I took a short time to calm down a little after two losses in a row, and when I was emotionally ready, Copito arrived. It's good that I didn't close myself off from that possibility, since inside me there was still a lot of love to give to other little angels with tails who were alone in the world, and today I have 5 that I couldn't live without, they are my treasures.

6)Sacrifice them? It sounds very hard, but although I trembled at that medical recommendation, I had to understand that there were no more possibilities to save my old Ruder and he needed to rest from so much pain. Euthanasia in animals should only be allowed and accepted in a case of terminal illness that is causing them great suffering, not for getting rid of a pet they do not want to care for. For that there are other alternatives such as giving it up for adoption to other people who are able to provide them with love and care and who do not hesitate at the idea of making them part of the family, just as all the little animals in this world deserve.

DÓNDE ENTERRAR A NUESTRAS MASCOTAS

WHERE TO BURY OUR PETS

All my life my house pets were buried in the yard of my uncle's big house, after I moved, some were buried in a field near our house in the oil field, where all the country boys residential had their horses… and the smaller pets have been buried in the yard of my current house. The last to die was Snowflake, and he is buried here in the garden of my house next to Chocolate, a little dog that I rescued but she died very quickly since she was very sick.

I was recently in the city of Lechería, and was amazed to see a Pet Cemetery for the first time. It is located at the foot of the Morro hill, in front of the Bay of Pozuelos. They made a beautiful garden with pebbles and plants, and a sign that reads the following phrase: "Our pets never die, they sleep in our hearts."
