even if the title might suggest it, today's article is neither about Peter Schilling nor about Elton John. ;-)
In the last few days I have been twice in the Baden neighboring community Hardheim on the road to make a few photos of the sights there. For me the most impressive is the model of the European Ariane 5 rocket in scale 1:4.
This was built on the Walter-Hohmann height in honor of the famous son of the city of Hardheim Walter Hohmann there.

auch wenn der Titel es vielleicht vermuten lassen könnte, handelt mein heutiger Artikel weder von Peter Schilling noch von Elton John. ;-)
In den letzten Tagen bin ich zwei mal in der badischen Nachbargemeinde Hardheim unterwegs gewesen, um mal ein paar Fotos der dortigen Sehenswürdigkeiten zu machen. Für mich am beeindruckensten ist dabei das Modell der europäischen Ariane 5 Rakete im Maßstab 1:4.
Dieses wurde auf der Walter-Hohmann Höhe zu Ehren des berühmten Sohnes der Stadt Hardheim Walter Hohmann dort errichtet.

The name Walter Hohmann is omnipresent in Hardheim - for example, the school is also named after him. Walter Hohmann was born on March 18, 1880 in Hardheim and spent his childhood there. Although he studied civil engineering in Munich, he achieved fame and glory mainly through his calculation of relavant challenges in questions of celestial engineering and space travel.
For example, in the years 1911-1915 he calculated which properties a rocket-powered spaceship must have in order to reach other planets in an optimized manner in terms of energy efficiency. Parts of his scientific work were also important components of the Apollo moon landing program. In 1970, a lunar crater was named after him.

Der Name Walter Hohmann ist in Hardheim allgegenwärtig - so ist z.B. auch die Schule nach ihm benannt. Walter Hohmann wurde am 18. März 1880 in Hardheim geboren und verbrachte seine Kinheit dort. Obwohl er in München Bauingeneurwesen studierte, gelangte er vor allem durch seine Berechnung relavanter Herausforderungen in Fragen der Himmelsmechnik und Raumfahrt zu Ruhm und Ehre.
Er errechnete zum Beispiel in den Jahren 1911-1915, welche Eigenschaften ein raketenangetriebenes Raumschiff aufbeiten muß, um optimiert in Fragen der Energieeffizienz andere Planeten erreichn zu können. Teile seiner wissenschaftlichen Arbeit waren auch wichtige Bestandteile des Apollo Mondlandeprogramms. Im Jahre 1970 wurde zudem ein Mondkrater nach ihm benannt.

On my first visit to Hardheim a week ago, the sky was unfortunately cloudy, so of course I had to visit again when the sky was sunny. However, I was not the only visitor. You can clearly see the UFO flying disc on the pictures here, can't you?

Bei meinem ersten Besuch in Hardheim vor einer Woche war der Himmel leider bewölkt, so daß ich natürlich nochmal bei sonnigem Himmel in Hardheim aufschlagen musste. Allerdings war ich nicht der einzige Besucher. Man kann doch deutlich die UFO Flugscheibe auf den Bildern hier erkenn, oder nicht?

In my last post about the pre-release of my new single Andy Jay Powell & Frankforce One - "Eternal Fire", which will now be officially released on February 24, 2023, I had already posted abstract photos of the Ariane. I would also have been very surprised if anyone recognized a rocket in those pictures. In any case, I hope that the new single will also go off like a rocket ;-)

In meinem letzten Beitrag über das PreRelease meiner neue Single Andy Jay Powell & Frankforce One - "Eternal Fire", die jetzt am 24 Februar 2023 offiziell veröffentlicht wird, hatte ich bereits abstrakte Fotos der Ariane gepostet. Es hätte mich auch sehr gewundert, wenn jemand auf den Bildern eine Rakete erkannt hätte. Auf jeden Fall hoffe ich, daß die neue Single auch abgehen wird wie eine Rakete. ;-)

Hardheim is of course not only the Ariane monument in honor of Walter Hohmann. But more about that another time...
