Cuando se tiene una granja, hay que asumir una gran responsabilidad, ya que hay muchas cosas en juego: cuidar los campos, supervisar las labores, contratar personal, criar animales, hacer compras y, en general, administrar bien todo lo que genera producción. Por eso, hay que trabajar incluso de noche. Así que tomé la camioneta a las 00:16 de la madrugada y fui a dar un recorrido por los campos. ¡Hay mucho por hacer!

Running a farm comes with great responsibility because there are many things to take care of: maintaining the fields, supervising operations, hiring workers, raising animals, making purchases, and, in general, properly managing everything that generates production. That's why you sometimes have to work even at night. So, at 12:16 a.m., I took my pickup truck and went for a drive around the fields. There's a lot of work to do!

Primero fui al campo donde, durante el día, había terminado de recoger la paja con la nueva empacadora que compré. Sin embargo, como les comenté, necesito una plataforma recolectora específica para pacas cuadradas. Lo digo porque también existen máquinas que producen pacas redondas. Así que, por ahora, mientras no tenga ese equipo, no puedo hacer nada con las pacas que quedaron en el campo.

First, I went to the field where, earlier that day, I had finished collecting straw with the new baler I purchased. However, as I mentioned before, I need a specific collection trailer for square bales. I say this because there are also machines that produce round bales. So, for now, until I get the right equipment, there's nothing I can do with the bales left in the field.

Hay una nueva semilla que quiero sembrar: el girasol. Este cultivo se paga muy bien en el mercado; y cuando digo muy bien, ¡es porque realmente vale la pena! Pero, para sembrar estas semillas, necesito una sembradora adecuada, ya que no todas tienen la capacidad de sembrar los mismos cultivos. Esta sembradora tiene un costo de $29.000 dólares. There's a new crop I want to plant: sunflowers. They sell for a very good price on the market, and when I say very good, I mean they're really worth it! However, to plant these seeds, I need a suitable seeder because not all seeders can handle the same crops. This seeder costs $29,000. It's the Kverneland Optima V, with a seed capacity of 1,200 liters, a working width of 4.5 meters, a power requirement of 51 horsepower, and a daily maintenance cost of $90.

No me quedó más remedio que solicitar otro crédito al banco, hasta alcanzar el monto máximo de préstamo permitido, que es de $200.000 dólares. Ya había solicitado una parte de ese dinero anteriormente, así que, con lo que me prestaron esta vez, fui a comprar la sembradora «Optima V». Dejé la camioneta en el galpón y me dirigí a la tienda en el tractor para recogerla. Una vez que llegué a la granja, la llevé hasta los depósitos de semillas para rellenar su tolva y dejarla lista para sembrar.

I had no choice but to take out another bank loan, reaching the maximum borrowing limit of $200,000. I had already borrowed part of that amount before, so I used the additional money to buy the Optima V seeder. I left my pickup truck in the shed and drove the tractor to the store to pick it up. Once I got back to the farm, I took the seeder to the seed storage area to fill its hopper and get it ready for planting.

Una vez hecho esto, la llevé a uno de mis campos, donde había dejado a un trabajador removiendo el terreno con el cultivador. Ya había avanzado una buena parte del trabajo, así que, mientras él continuaba pasando el cultivador, contraté a otro trabajador para que fuera sembrando. De esta manera, ambos trabajarían al mismo tiempo en el mismo terreno. Esta es una estrategia que pondré en práctica de aquí en adelante para aprovechar mejor el tiempo y avanzar más rápido con las labores de la granja.

Once that was done, I took the seeder to one of my fields, where I had left a worker preparing the soil with the cultivator. He had already completed a good portion of the job, so while he continued cultivating the field, I hired another worker to start planting. This way, both workers could operate in the same field at the same time. It's a strategy I'll be putting into practice from now on to make better use of my time and get farm work done faster.

Luego, a bordo de mi camioneta, me estacioné a la orilla de otro de mis campos, que incluso queda al lado del terreno donde ya están trabajando mis empleados. Later, I drove my pickup truck and parked beside another one of my fields, which is right next to the field where my workers were already busy. While supervising their work, I noticed that this other field was also ready for the same process I had started in the previous one. Once the worker finished cultivating the first field, I assigned him to start preparing the soil in this new field.

Antes de irme a casa, pasé por el gallinero para recoger los huevos. También tengo gallinas que me producen aproximadamente 22 huevos diarios, y debo recogerlos para que puedan seguir poniendo. ¡El que se aburre trabajando en el campo es porque quiere! Aquí, trabajo es lo que sobra.

Before heading home, I stopped by the chicken coop to collect the eggs. I also have chickens that produce around 22 eggs a day, and I need to collect them so they can keep laying more. Anyone who gets bored working on the farm must want to be bored! There's always plenty of work to do around here.
