Growing up, I thought being a woman meant having no room for mistakes, putting others needs first, carrying everyone along, carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders. I thought it meant having everything figured out.Truly,no one can have everything figured out, whether male or female.As I got older, my frontal lobe developed and I realized how far from the truth I was .
From my standpoint, I believe being a responsible woman means standing up for my self in way I never imagined I could, making difficult choices, putting myself first, and never giving up on the woman I dreamed of becoming.It is characterized by staying true to myself and my set values and goals when compromise is right around the corner.
Most people will tell you that a responsible woman is one who is educated, married and has children under her husband's roof.Things have long changed. A responsible woman picks her self up despite the numerous set backs in life that she has faced, she doesn't let her trauma of her past bitter experiences determine who she is. She grows and keeps on growing. Her ability to remain kind in harsh world, most women loose themselves due to past trauma, they allow negative things in life weigh them down, which in turn holds them back in life .
As the first born child and only daughter of my parents, I was told I had to be responsible, I was and still am a second mother to my siblings. It wasn't an easy job at all. I was never told not to put myself first, I knew my job as a big sister and I never backed down. My siblings watched me grow before I watched them grow, there was no room for mistakes. Responsibility to me means understanding that self care isn't selfish. Self isolating and resting and pursuing my dreams is a sign of my growing wisdom as a woman, supporting other women and not competing with them, leaving every place and woman better than we found it.
In a world that expect us to everything at once, "be successful, "be Modest, "get married at this age" "have children". Women want to be financially independent, they want to be more successful than men, they want to make themselves happy. I'm glad women of today are waking up. The happiness when you find out that so called narrative is changing.
In all said and done, being a woman isn't about the sacrifes you make,it's about being authentic, brave, inspiring to create a life that mirrors our values and make us role models for others.
Responsibility as a woman is about making good out of any bad the world throws at you. It is not about perfection. It is not easy being a woman, especially a responsible one.
