Like i said in my post Introduce Yourself with Croatia every week i will write and represent you one of Croatish regions. In this post i am gonna introduce you with Dubrovnik :)
LOCATION
HISTORY
Dubrovnik (lat. Ragusa) is established in 7. century. In 1358. Dubrovnik became republic. They first voted law for repeal slavery and they first accepted independent of SAD. In 15. century population was 40 000 what made Dubrovnik one of the biggest cities in Europe (London had 50 000 and Firenca 100 000). After that they trade with Turkey, Italia, Spain, England...In 1667, Dubrovnik had almost destroyed a powerful earthquake in which a large number of Dubrovnik people died, while many buildings were demolished. After earthquake and american settlements they stop being one of centers of trade. In 1808. without resistance France army conquers Dubrovnik, after that Dubrovnik were always part of some countries.

Dubrovnik population now is about 40 000-45 000 people. Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful destinations in the world, both in terms of cultural heritage and in terms of tourist destination for vacation. The city is often referred to as the "pearl of the Adriatic", and in 1979 it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list as a city of rich culture and history. The Old Town of Dubrovnik is located within the city walls of a length of 1940 meters, which have served for many centuries against threats and today represent the city's greatest attraction.

City walls and fortresses
The walls were built from 13. to 17. century for defending city. The walls are long 1940 m, up to 25 m high. On every of four sides of world they are protected by fortresses.
Churches and monasteries
City is also famous for cathedral and other churces. Patron of the city Dubrovnik is St.Vlaho

Near Dubrovnik is beatiful island called Mljet which is woodiest island in Croatia. Mljet is national park :)
