Finally a real vacation again
It feels like a century since I had a real vacation. But now I had finally two weeks off and we arranged a trip to Croatia to visit some spots to enjoy some new experiences.
First stop: Dubrovnik
Most of you probably heard about Dubrovnik because of Game Of Thrones the American fantasy Drama which was world wide successful. To be honest, I only learned about this when I told friends and colleagues about our plans to visit Croatia. And until now I haven't watched it but it is certainly on my list now!
However, knowing not much about Game of Thrones and frankly about Croatia I was excited to visit.
So, now let me take you with me and share some of my impressions of this little town.
After some hours of flight time (here we are crossing the alps)
we approached the dalmatian see and could see our first impressions of this Mediterranean pearl of Europe.
Unfortunately we had strong winds which forced our pilot to circle around the airport for about 30 minutes. We had the chance to se a bit of the landscape during this time but also faced some strong turbulence and a rough landing. We have been very happy to leave the plane and head to our rented apartment after this. When we arrived, it was all dark and the apartment was about 25 minutes away by foot from the city so we just called it a night and hit the beds.
When I traveled in the past I had one thing I really loved! If you arrive at a new destination ind the dark and you wake up in the morning to see where you actually are now. This rare occasion is what we where lucky enough to experience here once more!
The first view from our apartment in the morning was stunning! You can see a bit of the Dubrovnik old town in the right corner, the island in front is called Lokrum
I knew from this moment, we made the right choice!
Of course we could not wait to explore and got up early to start. Without further words l, let me just share my pictures which I took the next days before we went up the coast to visit the next gem of Croatia, the town of Split
I think if you are a fan of Game of Thrones, you might recognize the one or other place 😊 I really enjoyed to visit this small town and also the surrounding area. There is a lot to discover and I recommend you to just go there and explore by yourself.
One downside though, the prices here are a bit ridiculous. You can pay easily 5€ for a beer or coffee here so better by some supply outside of the old town (still not cheap but acceptable).
We really enjoyed the the city wall walk, which allows you to walk on the city wall surrounding Dubrovnik fortress. In my opinion it's best to buy the day pass as it is the same money (40€ per person) as the normal entrance for the city wall but also includes a bunch of other attractions in the city.
If you have questions or need advice for your visit, please feel free to ask. I think I might have some useful info for you.
See you soon ❤️
