Have you ever been inspired to make a particular style based on the fabrics?
Well, here is a fabric that would have been lovelier as a shirt and shorts but preference matters a lot.
My client walked in the other day and asked me to make her a fitted dress with a mesh around the neckline and as soon as I sighted the fabric, I imagined a thousand and one other styles that would have been lovelier for the fabric.
I didn't fail to suggest to her what I thought would have been finer but she was bent on making a fitted dress with the fabric so I proceeded to work table.
The materials needed for this outfit were;
Mesh
Pad
Lining
Zipper
And the fabric itself (wool cotton fabric)
I began to cut this fabric and then I realized that one man's meat is another man's poison, we all cannot have the same taste in fashion and any other thing.
As much as I couldn't stop imagining a fine shirt and shorts with this outfit, I didn't fail to work according to my client's preference.
Do you also imagine a style just immediately after you see a certain fabric or am I the only one guilty of this?馃槂
I ensured I cut out the fabrics using my client's body measurements, I made a princess dart bustier off-shoulder and added net/mesh to the upper part to make it a dress with shoulders again as seen in the collage.
I also cut the lower part, I deducted her half-length from her full length which was what I used in sewing the lower bodice.
I also cut out the pad according to her bust span and cupped it appropriately after which turned it with the lining and added the mesh for the upper part.
Then I proceeded to sew them together, fixed my zipper and gave it a good shaping after which I ironed it.
Surprisingly, after wearing it on my dummies I began to like the style once again.
Too bad, her hip is quite smaller than my mannequin's, so it was hard having the full picture of it on my mannequin.
I wore it like that and took a shot of it, this picture isn't so bright because I used my friend's phone to take this shot as mine had a low battery then.
So this is what the dress looks like and I am still certain, the style in my head would have been finer.馃ぃ馃ぃ
